tonight spending the night in laundry room ( crate area ) for punishment
and from now on out we lock our bedroom door and use a key to open it .
Otherwise going outside for me .

Even though I'm new with the crate training business, I have to agree with Jamie...never crate or lock a dog up as punishment.

If I remember right, isn't Foxy-Daisy still relatively young, and didn't you just acquire her? Both of those things must be taken into consideration, and you have to remember that there WILL be accidents.

She will have no clue why she's in the laundry room and will not associate that with the poop she made in your bedroom. They just don't remember things that way, and it won't be useful in training her not to do it again.

If she's been sleeping in your room with you, keep her in a crate in there for sleeping, and I totally agree with keeping the room locked and off limits.

It's important that puppies who are not yet fully housebroken NEVER be given run of the house. It's too easy for them to make accidents outside your line of vision without you knowing that it happened. The ONLY time you can do useful training with accidents is if you catch them DURING the act of making poop or piddle. Otherwise, they will only be bewildered and have no idea why you're angry.

I agree TOTALLY with Mrs.NIX.
Over the years I've learn that you have to out think a beagle, NEVER let your guard down, for the first few months you have to think of nothing else(practicaly)but to supervise, supervise & supervise!!! And don't forget YOU are the teacher!!!!

I agree with everyone above. I wouldn't use her crate as punishment if you want her to feel safe in it. Also, like Mrs Nix said, she won't connect her pooping in the floor to you locking her in her crate. I know it's frustrating, but if you don't catch them in the act you just have to clean it up and look the other way otherwise they have no clue why they are being punished.

yes i agree, you should never use the crate as punishment, it shoould be a nice place to go and a safe haven. otherwise when you want them to go in there because you are going out or whatever, they think they are being punished. they should always associate it with nice things and nice times.
