Duke Died, And it is still a very sad day for Pop! Like my
Snapper...Duke was the first dog that he rescued from a shelter
after Snapper died. (His first beag "found him") when he was a
kid as a stray & Snapper was my 1rst pic as the only beag in the
San Gabriel shelter in 1976! Both of them lived for 13 yrs in our
care, But Goober was the "last pick of the litter" of 8 of them
to choose me!(That was in 1992, & he is still greeting me with
"the zoomies" when I come home! Goober is our "record-breaker" in
age & I hope that everyone in the "dawg-community" will be
blessed with a "seniour dog" like him! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/PuppyEyes.gif

Btw, Pop's birthday is this saturday 8 March! And I am stumped as
to what to get him for his big day of turning 68!(Any suggestions)? I might take him to Red Lobster for a birthday dinner...but I am open to suggestions!?

Sorry yesterday was a sad day for Pop. I have no suggestions on the b-day gift, but the Red Lobster trip sounds yummy.

Does Pop like to read? Maybe a magazine subscription or books.

Thanks ZK! Pop is a tough man to shop for! After all..."he owns
2 of everything", (even beags)! I might toss a coin to decide
between driving Mom & Pop down to the Indian cacino in Worley for
some gambling & the buffet or to the Coeur d Alene Red Lobster!

I'm so sorry about Duke. It's hard for all of us to lose a beloved pet! Please wish your dad a happy birthday for us.
I think we're pretty close neighbors - I live in Colfax - about 25 miles from Moscow.

Btw, it stinks to to lose a loved one near/on a holiday/birthday
but no one can change that! It has been a very long time since I
lost Snapper & I have forgotten the exact date, but he died in
the spring of 1989. Next month Goober will turn 16 & have broken
the 13 yr record once again set by Snapper & Duke! (Not to sound
selfish)...but I hope that when his "time comes" it will not be
near/on a birthday/holiday! He has had a very blessed life thanks
to what we have learned about the breed & has passed on a lot of
his "quirks" to "Homer-the-Huge"!"Thumbup"!

I can only hope that my brats have as long and healthy life as your "Goober"! My oldest is 7 1/2 - so far all have been very healthy - except for the "usual" minor illness/accidents/and a few "fights". The one exception has been my little "Lottie" (rescue)who came to me with multiple problems. She's fine now - tho she still has some "baggage" from her life as a "kennel dog". I'm so grateful to my vet - who has been a lifesaver for me so many times. Congratulations on your Goober! You must be a great dad!

Thanks Beags mom & A Doghouse! Duke has not been forgotten... as
he was the elder beag @ the time to mentor Goober back in 1992
when my parents moved here in the spring of that year & Duke &
Goober "accepted" each other @ first sight! Goober learned a lot from Duke when he was young & Goober has done a very good job of
teaching "Homer-the-Huge" how to act like a Beagle! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Beagsmom, as long as you provide good vet care, a healthy
balanced diet with vitamins & minerals along with plenty of
exercise, your beags will most likely live a long full life as
well! Nowadays, Goober is more like "Abe Simpson" as a "Grandpa-
beag" weighing barely 30 pounds...but in his youth he was about
18 inches at the withers & weighed about 45 pounds! He is TINY
next to "Homer-the-Huge", now...but is still the "lead dawg"!

NW - the dog that's shown in my "avatar" is not mine - but is the uncle of my JoJo - he's an 18" tall, 50# beagle, and is truly magnficent, he is the biggest beagle I'd ever seen - and I fell in love with him when I went to NY to pick up JoJo. JoJo's dam, who is "Donnte's" full sister, is a tiny little girl topping out at about 20#. JoJo is someplace in between the two, she's pregnant now (puppies expected mid-April), and weighs about 34#, and her "kids" are all smaller than she is, but then their sire is a small beagle. My brats (all 10 of them) get the best that I can give them - they have a wonderful vet - get good quality food, and have a nice fenced yard to run around in when they're not in here with me. Unfortunately I live in town - so they're not outside as much as they would like to be - or I'd like for them to be. While I love "beagle song", my neighbors don't, so if they start barking they have to come inside. My DREAM is to retire to a couple of acres with a small house - and a HUGE fenced yard/kennel for them. Unfortunately, that doesn't look like it's in the cards any time soon.
Do you have pictures of Goober and "Homer"?? Would love to see them!

of Goobs in his younger years), but I have been negligent about
taking pic,s of him in his golden years! I will contact you when
I get the pic's developed by "pm"! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/PuppyEyes.gif Btw, (Have I not sent you
pic's before)? You can also contact me at [email protected] "but"
my old puter is having problems with current emails as it seems to "hold-back" some of them for up to 2 months! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thsmiley_fistshake.gif

Well Mom made Pop's favourite meal, country style pork ribs with
cole-slaw & white rice with fresh salsa added to taste! I may
treat him (& Mom) to the RedLobster dinner on fathers day...as
he has barely recovered from the flu-bug that has attacked our
area! This was a rather potent strain of it as the last time Pop& I had it was at least 10 yrs ago! (Mom has avoided it thus
thus far...but she was the only one the family to get a flu-
shot). I got Pop a bottle of "Old Overholt" rye whiskey, a 5 lb
bag of Hoodys salted peanuts in the shell & a 12 pack of Old-
Milwaukee beer to go with it! YUM-YUM!(I know what he likes)...
(but then again...those are "my" favourites as well!) As Pop would
say..."the branch does not fall far from the tree"! Pop is now 68
yrs old & I will turn 48 two months & 2 days after his birthday!
EEK!
