viral papilloma

So I almost freaked out today when I saw those growths inside chloe's lips... I just started panic...
I noticed today that she has one almost pea size growth on her inner lip (by accident BTW) and 4 more tiny ones. I immediately took her to the vet and he said its Canine Papillomatosis. Like HPV but on dogs - scary /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif
He said that it's not genetic, and she probably picked it up from another dog. The thing is that a few days ago when I gave her the heartworm pill, I didn't see anything.
The vet said that there is nothing to do with it, so recommended that I wait a week or two (not more than one month) to see if there are any changes, if more break out or if we're lucky, they shrink and dry. I hope the latter will be the case.
If they won't go away by themselves, she will have to go under the knife again... another surgery /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif and they will take it off. I will probably won't grow back.

I did some reading and found that young dogs get it as their immune system is not that stong yet, and usually the body fights is and it goes by itself (please I hope that happens).

I don't want her to go through another surgery..... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Both Booker and Moose have had those - and, as per usual, neither of theirs cleared up on their own and they had to be removed. Moosie's just kept getting bigger and bigger (the vet recoiled in horror when she opened up his mouth - it really was quite funny) and Booker started sprouting them all over her mouth (a recurring theme for the Book, it seems).

Hopefully it won't come to surgery for Chloe, but to reassure you just in case, however, it really wasn't too invasive, as surgeries go. I'm not sure they even needed a general anaesthetic - they might have been able to do it with a local anaesthetic and sedative... it is hard to remember exactly as it was some years ago and there have been SOOOO many surgeries since - but it definitely was relatively minor as surgeries go and the recovery was pretty much instantaneous and neither of theirs ever grew back.

Fingers crossed it won't come to that for Chloe, though.
I know nothing about viral papilloma, and hope I don't have to learn. I'm just sorry that Chloe has developed them, and really hope they go away on their own. Seems like several of our babies have surgeries much too often. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Please keep us posted, and we'll keep our fingers and paws crossed that these things go away.

I'm so sorry you to are having to go through this!

Keeping her in my thoughts and prayers...Hope the lumps go away on their own and never come back!
Poor Chloe! I'd be freaking out too Eleanor. I've never had any personal experience with viruses or anything like that. I hope that Chloe gets better soon and doesn't need any surgery. Give her an extra belly rub from me!
So sorry to hear about Chloe, hope this episode is soon over.
I have noticed that Chloe's "big" wart, is developing a little tip bulging out of it, and it's getting a paler color. I hope it's one of the signs of it drying up and starting to open (before falling) like a cauliflower (that's what I've been told).
The thing is, that if it's "dying" all on it's own, it means the virus is entering the blood stream and the body develops an immune for it, so it doesn't come back. The thing I don't understand is how come it was developed in the first place, if it's not in the blood stream.... :conf6:
.... keeping my fingers crossed.
Great News - I have noticed 2 days ago (didn't want to jinx it, so waited another day before I spread the news) that the warts are getting significantly smaller and 2 of them (the tiny ones) are gone completely.... the one that was pea size is now less than a third of what it was... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
I am supposed to get a homeopathic solution on Monday, but I guess I won't be using it.
:bounce: Yeay - no surgery :happyhappy:
