Hi, folks! Well, Ms. Maggie will have her pre-treatment ACTH test on Saturday and, as soon as results are back, we will start treatment with Lysodren for Cushings Disease. Her vet thinks that Maggie will be feeling much better after treatment starts. We are so hopeful that anxiety attacks, compulsive wall-licking, etc. are connected to excess cortisol. If nothing else, Maggie's senior years will have a much higher quality of life than would occur if we didn't go forward with treatment. I have joined a Cushings Disease on-line forum (caninecushings.net), mainly to get info on treatment but I promise not to shift my loyalties! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'm glad to hear the you've finally got a diagnosis. As I've told you before, Lysodrene worked great with Amber. I'm glad that you found a support group for Cushings. I wish that I'd had that. Hugs to Maggie!

I have to agree that I am glad you finally have a diagnosis for your Maggie and can get her started on the right meds. Not knowing sometimes can be the hardest things-with our kids or pets, etc.

I do hope that the medication helps Maggie, and also that as a side benefit her anxiety will be lessened. Tummy rubs to Maggie, and kudos to you for being such a good beagle mom. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Judy,
I've been absent from BW, so hadn't kept up on Maggie's recent diagnosis.

THANK GOODNESS you have an answer to her recent problems. I ditto the above sentiments: let's hope her anxiety will soon be just a bad memory.

Hugs to you dear Maggie!

Hi Judy,
I've been away from BW for a few days and am trying to play catch up. I'm so sorry Miss Maggie has been diagnosed with cushings. As I'm sure I've mentioned (probably many times) Miss Shiloh was diagnosed with Cushings in 2005. I had never heard of the disease and was surprised to learn there is so much on the net about it! The biggest thing to remember is that Cushings is not a death sentance! It can be controlled! There are dogs on my support group who have been on medication and doing great for years. It's good you found a support group so soon. That looks like a good one. If you're interested in another one also, here is how to check out the one I joined:

Which medication have you decided to use? Shiloh takes Trilostane, and I've been pretty happy with that. A lot of people use Lysodren too--it's up to you and your vet to decided which one is best for Maggie.
Best of luck to you both. If I can help in any way, do let me know!

Hi! Thanks to all for your good wishes for Maggie's well-being. She had pre-treatment ACTH stim test yesterday instead of tomorrow so should have results by Monday. She spent the day at the vet's as I had appointments all day --she had a great day -- visiting and "talking" with all the staff. Such a difference from her recent hospital stay! I am so grateful that I have found a wonderful vet who has a very caring staff. Genie -- plans as of now are to go with Lysodren. We are still trying to ascertain whether she has "atypical" Cushings -- that might change the med decision. I used to be a member of a listserve for a medical condition that I have and I was inundated with e-mails. Is the one for Cushings one where you can just go read e-mails or do you receive all of them automatically?
