tick question

Just wondering where most of you have found ticks more likely to get onto your dog. I had hoped to find a lemon/white or red/white beagle so that I stood a better chance of spotting the buggers but as luck would have it the one I am going to meet is mostly white but has black on ears and blk/brn part of face. I have a golden colored aussie and often able to see even the little deer ticks before they embed on him or crawl onto me altho admit its not fool proof. I know all about flea/tick meds but don't care to use them and plus they don't really work for ticks so am trying to make a wise decision re coloring as my dogs sleep in bed with me and I think ticks mostly get on ears which would be hard to spot on blk ones? Thanks for any input

Mine are/were both basic tri colour and I haven't had to pick ticks and have had no flea problems. Non scented Garlic and Advantix to thank. I am constantly pulling the little suckers off myself.
