But how about a Murphy memorial seniour beag post! Murphy was
a seniour beag, as by most vet standards...a dog over 8 yrs old
has entered their seniour years! Nibbler is now over 8 yrs old
& Homer is only 2 yrs away from becoming one himself! Goober is
clearly a king (but not a record holder) in that dept. But as
our favourite breed tends to extend their lifespan as us humans
do, I would like to see more examples of them living longer &
sharing the tips on how to extend their life as I have been
blessed to enjoy the company of Goober for nearly 16&1/2 yrs!

I think that's a great idea, NW. I have one beagle, Princess, who will be 8 this month - and she's still going strong - Chloe is 7 and have a 5 and 6 year old - along with some of the youngsters. I want to keep them healthy and active as long as possible.

Well, my beags are both young, but my lab Cassie is a senior for sure at 12. And Roscoe was 13 when he crossed the Bridge.

I love that seniors know what you want and can read your every movement so well that you rarely have to give commands. That and the fact that they are much more mellow and well-behaved.

I know food, vet care, etc. plays a huge part in a dog's longevity. But I have to say, we got the labs early in our relationship and we were broke and couldn't afford the best of everything and some minor health issues had to be handled at home and we were still lucky enough to have 2 labs live to be over 12 (which is a long life for a lab). I think that love and attention and happiness also contribute to having a dog with a long lifespan (barring, of course, diseases and genetic issues that are out of anybody's control).

That would be great! There are so many things that are different when they get older, questions and comments, and cute things all put into one. A Senior thread would be great. And Cobi turns 8 in September.

There is nothing like an older dog. Pups are fun but the older a dog becomes the wiser they are. They become good, loyal friends. Murphy will never be forgotten by a lot on this board.

Thanks Doghouse & Co! I realize that this idea may be
redundant since the discussion area covers all ages of beags
& those of us with seniours are in the minority... but, if
current trends continue... we will have a lot more seniours &
the possible need for a seniour thread! I for one, would not
have expected Goober to be as healthy as he is in his advanced-
age!!! Rufus is 4 yrs younger than Goober, yet he had a problem
with his prostate gland that has been cured & Goober has never
had any health problems attributed to age despite his worn-
out teeth & his heart-murmer! Goober may be our first dog/
beag to die of old age when his time comes as he has worn-out
his teeth by being a big chewer, & most likely will die of a
heart attack while playing with Homer & my neighbors dogs!
