Any animal assisted therapy dogs here? Buddy came from an abusive owner and spent 4 months in an outdoor shelter before we found him. He has recently received his Canine Good Citizen certificate at 6 years old and is a therapy dog. The training was a challenge, the classes took place outdoors on the lawn of the humane society..LOL a dream for a Beagle with so many scents! Once I got his nose out of the ground, he did exceptionally well and we are now visiting a woman's facility once per month. He loves his job and takes it very seriously. I don't think I am able to post photos or I would post him in his vest.

My greyhound Andy is a therapy dog. I would love for Molly to become one when she stops being so nervous.

Congratulations! I am working with Sebastian to get his CGC and Therapy Dogs International license. Lots of hard work! We are trying to get past the hurdle of the supervised separation, but he does well on the other parts. He is only one though, so we have some time. It's great that you got your beagle to be a therapy dog, they have such sweet personalities!

When Andy, my Greyhound, was tested for his TDI the only thing he didn't know was down/stay. He learned right while he was there with the help of the evaluator. The separation part was easy, they had me hand him over to a handler and I just left the area for about 5 minutes. He did fine.

I think the most important things for them to know are leave it (to keep them safely away from things on the floors), stay or down/stay and if they are going to a nursing home they need to learn to stay away from the crotch area (sorry to graphic) of the residents. A lot of them wear diapers and the dogs tend to head right to that area. It really is a lot of fun and the dogs love it.

Colby passed his TDI test a couple of months ago. I haven't had the time to take him any where but hopefully in a month or two I'll have time to take him places.

The holidays are a really good time for visits. There are a lot of people in nursing homes and hospitals with no visitors.
