Helo Everyone,

I received my Beagle,Hobey on Christmas of 2004 as a gift from parents, the best gift ever=) we had him for four years I was a sophomore in Highschool when we got him, like most Beagles he had that very outgoing personality. My whole family was very attached to him, I cried more over Hobey than I did when I heard about the death of a friend. Hobey was up north at our cabin on Xmas Eve with my dad. My dad figured it was fine for hobey to run on the lake as he was also down there and no one else lived near us. well as me and my 5 other family members were getting in thecar to leave our house and make the 2.5 hour trip to the cabin my mom had received a phone call from my dad. worst ohne call I've ever heard. Hobey had been hit by a car. His pelvis was immediately shattered, and way out of place. Some good samaritan pulled over to the side of the road and tried to recover the unconscious hobey laying in the road. several cars according to him went around hobey, but a large truck struck Hobey again and that is what we think was the big factor in Hobey's fractured skull. The young man who recovered hobey brought him to our cabin (by this time hobey is conscious) but my dad did not hear the door bell ring as he was down on the lake. so later the boy's father came over and found my dad. he tells the news of hobey and my dad drives to the animal hospital where the boy is waiting in his car soaked with blood holding Hobey in his lap...how nice..I was able to see Hobey for a couple minutes before he past. he waslaying all bandaged up in the back of my dads car. Im not sure he recognized any of us. not the way I really wanted him to go:( but I know he is in a better place now. Just really hard to not hear him ringing the bell on the door to go outside or having him snuggle up at night before bed.

I'm very sorry for your loss.
I lost my Amber girl almost four years ago at the age of 12. I still miss her. Losing a pet is the same as losing a family member, at least to me. Grieve as you would for a person. No one here will ever tell you he was just a dog. Hobey was your buddy and it will take time to get over him.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We still cry when we think of Spotty, who died three years ago.
Our neighbour came across this Christmas Eve, to say he and his son had just been to the vets to put their Rottweiler down. Both men were in tears. Lissi had slipped on the ice and torn or damaged something in her back, unable to move and crying in pain. As she was 10 years old, with two bad hips and one lame leg, also hugely overweight, the vet said it would have been cruel to operate.
Losing a dog is a terrible experience.
