According to a segment I saw on the Animal Planet a beagle's nose is more sensitive than even a bloodhound's, but bloodhounds are used for tracking because they are not as easily distracted by other scents as are our beagles.
Bloodhound, btw, is a misnomer. They really don't track by the scent of a person's blood. The track the perspiration the person leaves in the air and the skin cells that flake off. They have been known to successfully track a person up to a week after the person has disappeared and several miles away even though the person traveled by car, as long as the car window was down so the scent was blown into the air.
