Tender thoughts on adopting a beagle pup
The following was written by an unknown author so I have taken liberties to adapt it to beagles:
<span style='font-family: Times New Roman'><span style='font-size: 11pt'>I will lend to you for a while, a Beagle pup, God said
For you to love him while he lives and mourn him when he's dead.
Maybe for fourteen or seventeen years, or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief,
You'll always have his memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below I want this pup to learn.
I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowds life's land, I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take my Beagle back again.
I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done",
For all the joys this Beagle will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we have known, foever grateful stay.
But should you call him back much sooner than we've planned
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
If, by our love, we've managed, you wishes to achieve,
The memory of him and his love, will help us while we grieve.
When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife
We'll have yet another Beagle and love him all his life</span>.</span>

That's one of the reasons I posted it. A friend sent it to me as it had helped her upon the loss of a pup. I just think it is good food for thought. Just take care of them and love them!
Yes, little Marco and his mommy were immediately in my thoughts as I read this. Prayers go out for both.
Lovely poem. Thanks, it helps me. I have been so sad over little Marco. His Mom is very brave and good hearted. I hope Marco's Mom can read it one day and feel some peace.
I was also thinking about Marco and his mom. It's a beautiful poem for all to remember.
I thought of Marco and his loving mommy, also. What a beautiful poem (even though I am, once again, at my desk with tissues and tears).

One can't help but think of precious little Marco and his Mommy when reading this. Very touching.
This made me think of Marco, too, but it's so bittersweet that I snatched it for my collection.
