Well, I have been trying to get Summer to the vet for the last few days (possible UTI), but due to a lack of vets (one left for a position at Johns Hopkins) and the others on vacation, they have been booked solid. To make matters worse, I got my days mixed and we missed Summer's appointment on Monday. I thought is was last night.

This morning she was in pain, a lot of pain. When I picked her up she screamed. So I ran her to the E-vet that is 5 minutes away. Its not a UTI. They think its her back, possible disk issue. Here we go again. The good news is that she shows no signs of paralysis and still has deep pain. The neurologist will call once he has a chance to evaluate her and do imaging (x-rays, myleogram, etc.)

I'll update you when I know more.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that! Poor Summer! At least you found out early. I will keep you, Summer, and the rest of the bunch in my thoughts. I hope it turns out to be something less serious. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Summer sweetheart, how did you hurt yourself? We'll never know. Hopefully it is very minor. Sounds like Sadie's situation when she had her herniated disk and it was not neurological at all and we just had to give her anti-inflammatories and rest. Keep us posted and kiss Miss Summer for us!!

Really sorry to hear it. Its the feeling of helplessness we have with our pets when they are not well that really adds to the pressure we already feel. Hang in there. And thanks for being a "good daddy" to you Murphy and Summer.

We have good news and bad news...

Bad News:
The Myleogram CT scan showed two bulging disks near the lumbar/thoracic junction of her spine (nearly identical to where Murphy ruptured his). Summer will undergo surgery tomorrow afternoon to correct this problem. The surgeon will call us once she is in recovery.

Good News:
She shows no neurological problems like paralysis and loss of deep pain. She still has full function and is uncomfortable but only due to pain. Because of this, her post surgery outlook is very good. If surgery goes well, she should recover fully.

Currently she is resting quietly. If all goes well, she should be home Saturday morning.

Sigh! Poor Summer - Summer is your time, you are suppose to be able to enjoy it. Summer for Summer, get it!

We will all have fingers and paws crossed smooth surgery and complete, rapid recovery.
