We finally have Summer's itchy-scratchy problem worked out. Staph infection. Yes, we had a talk with our vet. She was not happy. But after this round of anti-biotics and steroids, she should be good to go. Summer is so much happier.

Murphy's Leukemia is still in remission. His last CBC still shows his lymphocyte count in the normal range. Sadly, Murphy is showing his age (12) and his paralysis is catching up with him. He is having a hard time standing up and walking. He has begun to drag himself around like he did when he was paralyzed. When he does get up, he keeps crossing his legs, tripping, start the whole dragging process again. He can no longer climb the stairs. I guess its time to pull out the cart again. Hopefully as it gets warmer, we can get some strength back in his legs.

Wow Joe, I'm glad you finally have a diagnosis for Summer! I bet your vet was not happy, but hey...you had every right and responsibility the way I see it!

Great news about Murphy's remission...little guy is a trooper, that's for sure! I think you need to take another trip to Florida (where it's always warm, lol) for Murphy's health! Don't a lot of sports teams go to FL for "Spring Training"? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sleep.gif

Sheesh MD! Your poor hounds have had some hard times! I pray that
they can get a break like some of our "hard cases" that barely
managed to live 13 yrs like Snapper & Duke! Both of them had a strong will to live...but Snapper was eventually paralyzed by
calcification of his spine & Duke died from a urological problem!

I'm happy to hear that Summer's skin problem has been diagnosed. Staph infections are no fun. Amber used to get them. As for Murphy, great news about his cancer. But, I'm very sorry to hear he's not getting around so great. I hope that he gets strength back soon. You'll have to bring him down to Florida and let him soak in the warm Gulf of Mexico waters.

So glad to hear that Summer's skin problem was finally diagnosed and is treatable -- Mags had a staph infection a few months ago and it cleared up quickly with meds.
I absolutely agree that you need to make a mid-winter trip to Florida with Murphy! Our senior pups need another meet-up -- I loved the way that Maggie nuzzled Murphy during their last visit. They could lean against each other for support!

So glad that Summer's itches are being treated! And that Murphy is still in remission!
But sorry to hear about Murphy's mobility troubles. I hope summertime brings some relief. Poor beaglie, he is having a hard life, despite the most caring "dad" I know. Give him an extra belly rub from the girls here.
