Hi all
Would like to know peoples opinions on when its best to spay your pet, I've been told leave it till after the first season or more, and also after the first 6 months? What's best what have you all done? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

You should get her spayed at 6 months old, preferably before her first heat. It's best for their health to spay them before their first season since that way they don't mature "sexually" and the chance of them getting cancer in their udders (I think that's what it's called) later on in life reduces greatly.

Everything I just wrote was explained to me by several vets!!!

Hi!

You definately do not need to wait until the bitch has had her first season! This is an old wives tail.

Around 5-6 months is the best time to do it - although if you want to get it done earlier ask your vet if your girl is big enough. Our beagle was quite a big girl at 4-5 months and our vet was fine to desex her then.

I also know some registered breeders desex all their pet puppies before they go to their new owners and this happens at 10-12 weeks of age. Most rescues do the same /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
