The day I had Chloe spayed, I brought her home at 5 pm. At about 10 she was acting as if nothing happened, but was just a tad slower than usual.
The next day she was excellent.

I think it depends on the dog. Chloe has not gained an ounce! She still looks like an anorexic beagle!
