Hey all,
Shadie the mini aussie got spayed today! I feel bad, she looks so disappointed that I would do this to her, haha.
How long did it take your dogs to recover? The vet thought 3-4 days. She's still sleepy right now (got spayed ealier today). She is doing well though!

Maggie felt good when she came home. The trick was keeping her quiet and calm until the stitches came out.

I will never forget this day. Poppy could hardly walk when we fetched her from the vets. We took her home about 17:30 & laid her on our bed. She stayed there all night & didnt move once!
The next day she was walking about very slowly & even managed to jump on the sofa, then everyday after that she rapidly progressed into her normal self. Keep an eye on her weight now though it can soon creep up.

The day I had Chloe spayed, I brought her home at 5 pm. At about 10 she was acting as if nothing happened, but was just a tad slower than usual.

The next day she was excellent.

It was not too bad for my household - just a couple of days, like your vet said. Both of mine got the surgery on the same day, and both slept like rocks all night. But Bones was trying to jump down off furniture as soon as the next day, despite all my protests. You might get the hurt, guilty looks tonight, but Shadie should be back to her old self very soon. And as soon as she gets to feeling better, you can start spoiling her so she forgets all about the surgery

Sounds great everyone! Quick question--do they seem to gain weight easier after they have been spayed/neutered? Beaglepopper mentioned that I might need to watch her weight. She's a good, healthy lean right now and weighs 14 lbs, but I wanna keep her there! She eats Innova Puppy at the moment!

Bones has filled out a little since she hit the year mark and is not yet fully grown, but she's mostly kept her figure trim and stayed all muscle with lots of laps around the house and intense wrestling matches with her brother.

Chantel, how is Shadie doing after her spay? None of my girls have had any problems, and were up and about the next day. They usually sleep most of the first day, but after that it's hard to keep them quiet. I do have to watch their weight - but then they're beagles. If I'm not mistaken, Shadie is NOT a beagle, and is a shepherd. Beagles are notorious chow hounds.

Glenda-
Shadie is doing well! She slept a lot on Wed. (the day she was spayed) and now she's pretty much her normal self. She's irritated that we won't let her jump on her couches and chairs, and we're keeping her away from the other dogs so she doesn't get excited. I think she's pretty bored, but everything looks good and healthy so hopefully soon she can get back to her normal routine. She's also not much of a chow hound--a little bit, but nothing like a Beag, haha!

I always laugh at the vets when they tell me to keep him/her quiet for a week after a spay/neuter. I've had boys that were ready to chase the world as soon as they woke up after a neuter - the girls usually are a little more sensible - it's a more invasive surgery and they're out longer, so they usually sleep all that day and sometimes a good portion of the next, but they bounce back quickly.
