Hello all!

Sorry to ask once again about anal glands, but searching did not find me any answers. Beagle Chloe has been having issues with both ends
for awhile. She had to go to the vet 4 weeks ago for her ears and vet said it looked mostly like allergies and after her treatment was over suggested a benedryl every couple of days.

And now she has started licking her bottom. The vet expressed her glands 4 weeks ago but she already started licking again. Last night I did it and along with the *normal* brownish watery stuff there was also some whiteish liquid. And her poops are soft (the other dogs are normal poops). In what research I have been able to find, some are saying that anal glands and allergies are connected.

Does the whiteish liquid mean she probably has an infection?

I don't know how much this has to do with anything, but I read in the Beagles for Dummies book that the sacs around their rear end sometimes need to be cleaned out.

Not saying that has ANYTHING to do with your puppy's issue, but it is a not-so-fun fact about the dogs...

Could be an infection. Four weeks isn't long for ours to go without needing a squeeze, but if the substance coming out is different than what you are used to I would definitely have it checked out.

I have also read there can be a connection between anal gland problems and allergies but haven't really investigated it. One of our four has allergy problems but three of them have had anal gland issues over the years, including two without allergies (or any other signs of allergies).
