There is nothing more precious (imho) than a beag puppys first
encounter with snow! But twice now we got a 2 inch blanket of
snow after dark & my flash attachment will not work. The first
time it melted by dawn, but hopefully this time I will get some
more pics as the forecast calls for below freezing temps to sub
zero temps for the next week! Jethro has enjoyed the snow with
the same enthusiasim as all our past ones! (On 1 Dec 1992) Duke
& Goober played in the backyard while Pop & I repaired my
broken water pipe to the water heater. It was the worst winter
storm since 1968 & my parents first winter here in their new
home. I have been living here since 13 Oct 1990 & welcomed
Goober to the small old home I purchased in April 1992. Snapper
my first beag was likely 5 yrs old when I adopted him got to
encounter snow soonafter that when Pop & I purchased a cabin
in Big Bear California & he LOVED to play in the snow as well &
chase squirrels up their trees away from the cabin!

Every one of my ten-pack loves the snow - unfortunately the snow we had yesterday didn't stick - tho the Palouse is expecting quite a bit of snow this week-end and below 0 temps, so I suspect they'll get their fill of playing in the snow. I love to watch them chasing each other (even the ones who don't normally like each other play together in the snow). You'd think that with their short coats they wouldn't really enjoy cold weather (my keeshond and my chow mix both would LAY in it - with their long hair they never got cold). Romeo (my oldest male) is the only one who knows when to get out of the white stuff and come up on the porch).
Hopefully you can get a picture of the baby's first (daylight) encounter with snow! Will be looking forward to it.
Sounds like we moved to this area about the same time - my mom, 2 grandkids and I moved to Colfax in October 1993 to get away from some of the crime and drugs in Sacramento and for a safer place to raise the grandchildren.

Snow!

I don't want to jinx us, but the snow level is predicted to get down to the 2000 or 2500 foot level by Tuesday, and we're at about 2800 ft...so I'm crossing my fingers. We haven't had a decent snowfall in four years!

I love to watch our dogs play in the snow. They act as if they have never been in that particular yard before. It is all full of familiar smells, but they have to re-locate all their favorite things by rooting in the snow. Oh what fun!

Beaglesmom, what a hoot! You gave me a smile today. When Chipper was alive, he loved the snow, he would be the snowplow through the back yard, and little Cobi would follow. Stop to pee and they both did, stop for big jobs, and they both did. Now Cobi, who hates snow, has to be the plow for my Minnesota born Casie....casie is just a weenie and won't do any jobs in the snow...always on the sidewalk, much to my mailman's disdain. But they are getting better. We are supposed to have a blizzard today or tomorrow....with blowing winds and horrible windchills. I am a little afraid of what that will do to Casie --- what's this with Minnesotan who hates snow????

Snow? What is that?

I would love to see my beags in the snow, but it hasn't snowed here in 11 years (and even then, just for a few hours). Though they say with the coming storm, it may get cold enough for some snow to hit our Valley....fingers crossed! Though Violet is a total LA girl and hates cold, so I'm not so sure she'd like it.

Snow? I've heard of that. It's the fluffy white stuff, right?
I haven't seen snow since 1989. I was in New Jersey for Christmas. Supposedly, it snowed some flurries here in Tampa that year, but I never got to see it. Jersey would be miserable in snow. She hates to be cold.

Gale, even my little princess, Lottie, likes the snow. It's about the only time she likes to get out with the big kids. Lottie is one of two very small beagles I'm owned by - she's from a long line of show champs and doesn't like to mingle with the field dogs. She's much too regal to mingle.

I don't know why, but Booker, who HATES rain and being cold and getting her paws wet, absolutes LOVES the snow and starts racing around like a puppy and howling whenever it snows (which isn't that often around here). Anyone seeing her in the rain would definitely never expect her to have that reaction to snow, but for some reason snow is an entirely different beast than rain (notwithstanding that, logically, it is wet and even colder than rain). I would love to get into her beagle mind and figure out why she loves it so much!!

Moose and Popcorn love snow too, but they don't react quite as enthusiastically as Booker, nor do they hate rain quite as enthusiastically as Booker! We haven't seen Buzzy yet in snow so we don't know about him yet...

Happily, for me, we don't often get snow here. Li'l Girl doesn't care much for it. I think mostly because it has to be cold to snow. She doesn't like cold, and she doesn't like hot. Like her momma, she's happiest in the spring and fall.

Brandy and Cecil hate cold weather also. Yesterday they went out when it was colder than they like because they had been inside for 2 days of rainy weather. They were ready to come inside where it was warm for their mid day nap. What a life. They would hate the snow as do I.

We are in the midst of a blizzard with winds of 45 mph....which means the wind chill is horrendous! Add to that, that I have a 3 ft drift inside my back door is making it very hard to entice puppies to go outside to do duties...this could become very interesting, very quickly. AND the idea that CAsie is so skinny that even thinking about going outside makes him shiver...poor boy, as soon as he gets that okay from the vet...he's getting some weight on him.

Wish I could print pictures, poor Cobi, just went out with the most pitiful face, pull me in mom, I promise to learn to use the toilet

Poor babies!

It's -37C here today. (-34ish Farenheit) It's too cold to snow and too cold to go out and play in the snow we do have, which Winston likes to do.

CM, we are in the midst of the same undesirable conditions as
the weather has turned nearly as horrible as it did in 1992,
sans the blizzard! (But several snow events are in the
forecast for next week)! Im very happy that Jethro, just in
time mastered the dog door & has no qualms about going
outside! With his mink-like fur coat & being an (Idaho beag)
He would have made Goober very proud! I have a date set for
Homer to be newtered...but with the cold-snap, I hope that
Homer will not suffer the same fate that the dog in the movie
Joe Dirt did! Silvertown was most likely a reference to
Silverton Idaho that is the town to the west of Smelterville
where one of my relatves lives!

We got some!!! It's snowing right now- and sticking! And still coming down!

Menolly didn't know what to make of the funny white stuff when I let her outside a few minutes ago. After a while she got the idea and ran around like a crazy dog, wagging her tail like mad. It it;'s still here after sunrise I'll videotape her in it.
