My dachshund mix, Molly, I had for one year before getting my beagle, Penny. Penny is a couple inches bigger and picked many fights over toys and bones at first (had her for over a year now). All of a sudden a month or so ago Molly will now attack Penny. Penny is usually always near me but not getting attention from me when this happens. I pull Molly back every time. They are crated when alone so not together. I try hard to not show more attention to one than the other. But geez it’s almost every other day now. Any ideas what I can do? I don’t have the heart to let them “fight it out” in case they are fighting for dominance.

I don't know how common it is beagles and dachshunds, but in my larger breeds of choice (German Shepherds and Rotties), same sex aggression is a real thing. There's a saying, 'Males fight for breeding rights, females fight for breathing rights'. I would definitely step in, don't let them fight it out. It's good you crate them separately when you're not around.

Have you used a trainer? Right now it's hard, but if you can have someone come in to help you in the home, I'd recommend it.

Thanks. Yeah, this just started. The dachshund is super loving so loves to sit next to me on the couch. Fights start when the beagle just walks near the couch. Sadly I feel like the beagle is getting skiddish because of it. I may need to see if there is a good trainer in my area. They don’t constantly fight or anything. The dachshund Molly will literally attack Penny (get pulled off and yelled at) and then by fine next to her the rest of the night. I’ve never seen the dachshund be so mean in the 2 years I’ve had her.
