Charlie is one year old, and still small in size. 22lb slim all over. I know some of you have a field beagle 15", is Charlie on the right track? I can still easily scoop him up and hold him, he likes to be cuddled.

I know that Fin is a field beagle as well and he's very very slender. At his last checkup he weighed 23 lbs and the vet said that was healthy. People are always commenting on how he's too skinny, but I'm taking the vets advice. I pick Fin up all the time and carry him like my baby. He'll even wrap his arms around my neck, its very sweet and and he loves it.

Sounds like my Bagel as well. Similar size 14.75 inches and slender but fit. Consider yourself lucky that Charlie isn't putting on excess pounds, fighting the battle of the beagle bulge is hard on everyone concerned. I constantly monitor Bagel, adjusting his daily portion to the "meat on his ribs" because I don't want him to pork up and believe me, if Bagel had his way, he could pork up real quickly /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Does he seem happy? Does he drink and eat regularly? Does he play? Does he sleep well?
If yes, your dog is just fine. There are Beagles who, through the breeding, are thinner, with a very slim face, which, in the show world is a common fault. Also, some lines do mature and grow slower than others. Many Beagles do not put their muscle mass until the 2nd year. Perhaps Charlie belongs to this category. 22lbs is not that bad. If he is healthy and happy, why worry about a particular trait that may just be one past on by his ancesters...

Snoopy is a slender beagle, also about 25 Ibs but I wouldnt want him to get fat. He is so fit and has lots of muscle. Dont worry about Charlies weight I am sure he is a healthy size. Susie has started to put weight on, so we have cut her food a bit. Wish someone would control MY food like this!!!!

Thank you all! Charlie is very healthy, very energetic, muscle legs. He can really run, I take him to the dog park for that kind of exercise. He is not good on leash but loves to run freely. Just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing for him, not under weight, cause I do every now and then gets these comments, why is he so slender.

Charlie sounds similar in size to Popcorn as well - another field beagle. Overall she is longer and thinner than the others... and not as stocky. She was about 23 pounds when we adopted her and is just under 15 inches in height. I've noticed she is creeping up a bit lately, though - with the unpleasant weather we have been having she hasn't been having as many chances to run.

Caleb has always been a slim beagle but was fussy with food but eats now. He was 2 and a half before he bulked out and looked like a giant puppy for a long time with a skinny back end!!

He is 14.5 inches tall and weighs 18-19 kg. Foxy Roo is 13.5 inches tall and weighs 13 kg and could get very fat quite easily!

Charlie looks fine. I hate to see humungus fat beagles.

Even our new Vet commented that it was nice to see Caleb was all in proportion and not fat
like a lot of beagles he sees!

I think Charlie is fine. My Louise is a 13 in, and weights only 17 lbs. I call her my little "imp" She is so tiny, but fast as a speeding bullet! Thelma, on the other hand, is a 13 in and weighs 22-23 lbs. She is a little "tubby" when she's sitting, but when she has "good posture" she looks great! Vet tells us they are both fine. So, don't worry. Less weight will keep her spine and heart healthy. Beth, Bill, Thelma and Louise
