Ive noticed Glover wakes up with allot of gunk or sleep in his eyes in the morning. I wipe it with a tissue and its fine for the rest of the day.

just curious if any of your guys have the same thing?

or is this a sign of a cold or something?

Aside from Maggie's current eye problems, she got very used to me saying "wipe eyes" as I pulled out a tissue. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Maggie's "gunk" (perfect word for it ...) was due to allergies -- definitely more stuff during high allergy times. If gunk is ever greenish, time for vet visit.

I have the same problem with Chloe.
When I got her she was tearing almost constantly, but it was pretty mild. When she was spayed they cleaned her Lacrimal punctum (I hope I say it right) and she is not tearing anymore, but started getting this gunky tearing in the mornings. I clean it with baby wipes every time, and ordered special eye wipes for dogs, to see if it helps.... I did consult with a vet, because sometimes this discharge is a little red, but he said that it's normal.

Booker gets big crusty "eye goobers" (no offence to the REAL Goober, I hope... that is just what we have always called them) pretty much every morning and sometimes during the day as well.

Popcorn and Moosie get them only once in a while.

Another way that beagles are like snowflakes...

My girls, Cecil and Brandy, both wake up in the morning with a little sleep in the corner of their eyes. I just wipe it away and they are fine for the rest of the day. I should note that when the sleep residue is a clump of gooey stuff, she has had an eye issue. One time she had a black eye and the other was some kind of infection. The vet gave me some eye goo to put in her eye twice a day and that took care of it. The normal sleep in the eye is just a small amount and not a clump of gooey puss.
