We have a bit of a problem with a skunk our perky little beagle was barking and howling up a storm and low and behold a little skunk was slowly coming out of the pines and boy they were almost nose to nose. We snatched her up and brought her in and the skunk left. It was not threatened at all thank god. As long as the tail stays down its okay. How can I keep this skunk out of the yard WITHOUT KILLING IT.

its hard to keep them out, i have a huge fence (which the beavers try to eat mind you) and i they climb ON TOP like squirrels. and just jump down. my golden had alot of close calls, teddy just looks at them he wont chase but a while ago i saw six babies in the yard, no sign of mom but they were gone in the morning so i'm assuming she found them. its hard to keep the critters out when you live near them, their very persistant.

why worry about killing it? it's a varmint. many times skunks and ***** carry rabies. maybe folks wanna be soft hearted towards them, but then when the dog gets rabies they have second thoughts. if it's not illegal, kill it before it breeds more.
if you think that's cruel, come to toronto (one of the largest cities on the continent) and see the trouble they cause here because no one is allowed to kill them.

We had this problem in the summer. We didn't want to kill the skunk and set live traps after blocking off the area they were nesting in and it was very difficult. After we trapped them my brave husband drove them outside the city and let them go. We got lucky and the beagles and my husband never got spayed. You have to be very careful though. Good luck.

We have alot of skunks this time of year. The other morning I saw one just lazily making its way across the street in from of our house.

This time of year I always put a light on in the backyard if Ben is out in the dark and I keep an eye on him too.

Just a few weeks after we got Ben two years ago he was sprayed by a skunk in our backyard. It was horrible!
