Chloe was playing with Abby (another beagle) in the park earlier, when I noticed her getting too close to the edge of the park. I went over to see what she was doing and found her with a decomposing rat in her mouth... :angryfire:
I was so close to gagging.... I just took her home and in the tub for yet another bath..... I literally stuffed her mouth with puppy shampoo.... scrubbed her from nose to tail and I can't still shake this horrible smell..... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif . I know it's in my head but it's just disgusting!!!

Oh, Chloe, such a lovely girl shouldn't pick up disgusting decomposing carcasses. :nono5:

Eleanor, the smell may not be all in your head. Our Traveler once found something long dead, and horribly smelly, in the woods. Not only did he chew on it, he rolled in it. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif He was given a bath, had his teeth brushed, was sprayed, etc., and the smell still lingered. It took a few days for my gag reflex to calm down.

Chloe. Humans just don't understand. Stealth is requirred when it comes to dead things we find. What they (the humans) don't know won't hurt them and we'll do fine.

Eleanor -- I can definitely relate! My first dog, Beaujolais, had a compulsion to chase, kill and eat small vermin. We lived in the Virgin Islands and, unfortunately, there were a lot around. Then one day I got a call from my landlady -- it seems that Beaujolais decided to dig up a long-buried animal (out of respect, the type shall remain a mystery ...). My landlady said that all that was left on my porch was a leg bone and a lot of fur. I rushed home and took Beaujolais to the vet. They put a tube down her throat and poured in charcoal. What a mess! The vet then gave me charcoal tablets to give her for the next few days. Beaujolais came home, ate dinner and was fine -- except for the awful stench that emanated from her. All this leads me to suggest that you might want to give your vet a call and ask about buying some charcoal tablets and giving them to her for a few days. They are an OTC item at most drugstores -- humans take them for digestion upsets.

Well... she didn't eat it (I think) - I didn't give her a chance to, just immediately started chasing her. Anyway, she seemed fine last night and this morning, her demeanor is the same... and after her bath last night she was playing, and again after this morning walk, so I think she is fine.
I will call the vet anyway, just in case. Thanks.
