We've had things like that happen with our rescue Moose and completely understand your anger - we don't really have any suggestion about how to get him past it other than that he will have to adjust slowly as you say.

With Moose it is sticks and dental floss... the sticks I can understand (sad as it is to think someone probably beat him with something like that) but does his fear of dental floss mean someone did something awful to him with fishing line?! I get angry just thinking about it...
