Our local newspaper held a recent contest for people to write in about why their pet is their Best Friend. My eight year old daughter Sarah sent her story in about why our beagle Copper is her best friend - and she tied for second place! They will put the story in the paper along with a picture of Sarah and Copper on July 22. I'll try to attach a link. What is really cool is that Sarah won a 6 week Dog Obedience class with a highly regarded local positive reward trainer - and also a consult with a local Dog Behavior Expert who has recently co-authored a book on raising kids and pets together. We were also given a copy of the book - and it is soo good - It's called Parenting with Pets by Christine Hamer and Margaret Hevel. A woman from the newspaper came to our home to interview Sarah and to meet Copper and told me that when she saw the picture of our beagle that we had sent in along with the story, she just knew that the Dog Obedience class was the prize for us! And she is sooo right! I cant wait to start next month! I dont know who is happier, Sarah or me! And I think Copper will be happy too as Im sure he'll like his class! Just thought I'd let everyone know.
