Rufus is Pop's most treasured possession as he seems to hold the "best & the worst" of all the beags we have known! Rufus was adopted in 1997 from a family that could not contain him thanx to their young children & the fact that he was an escape artist! Thanks to that he became a protege of Duke & took the position of lead hound when Duke died. Nibbler is larger & younger than he is , but Nibbler knows that Rufus is the "elder hound" like Goober & Homer! (Homer is about 4 times larger than Goober)...But Homer still respects his position & knows that I am "the big dawg! :cool2:

I think it is sooo cooool how they all know where they are in the pecking order and respect each other's position. And, of course, they all know who the big kahuna is! They also know they are all loved and cared for.

(For more info) seek out the book "How to speak dog" by Stanley Coren! It is a great book that explains the body language of dogs & the "mixed-signals" between dogs & cats. (What is interpreted as a "play gesture" between dogs is actually a threat when a cat does it)! (They are "polar-opposites" & it's no wonder that they can be "natural enemies")! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

Btw, Rufus is like a cross between Charlie Brown & Pig pen! He became addicted to scratching the fur off his hindquarters on 2 of the 3 cedar trees in his yard! Pop has had to install a wire fence around the things! Rufus has no skin condition to explain his weird behaviour...but he REALLY likes scratching his butt on the cedar trees! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif
