I've only ever had female dogs so my answer is biased.

My first dog Lilly was extremely affectionate and would happily lie in my lap all day long.

Rosa is affectionate and demanding to the point of being overbearing at times and I have to get up and walk away.

I had a puppy called Daisy for 3 months and she was like Lilly, affectionate but not overbearing.

Sherry is affectionate but on her terms. She does not like to be hugged on the couch but prefers to be stroked and petted on the floor.

I've also fostered a few dogs but they were all females too with varying degrees of affection displayed.

I had a male dog when I still lived at home with my parents and I don't remember him being very affectionate at all really but it was a long time ago so I can't be sure.
