Snoopy hurt his leg this morning. He screams if you try to lift him and even opted NOT to go for a walk. We know it is probably nothing, but are prepared to go to the emergency 'out of hours services' (1st Nov is a holdiay)tomorrow. We have brought his basket down from our bedroom, and I'll sleep downstairs tonight. It happened when he tried to jump onto our bed this morning. We have had a few scares with the little chap this year, but this looks like a muscular thing. Shall let you know- our biggest fear is back problems, but we dont think so.
One interesting point today was, that when Dave sneaked out for a walk with Susi, that she was as good as gold. Normally, when both hounds are under way, both go mad if they see another dog.
I shall report tomorrow about how things are. Meanwhile 'Happy Halloween to you all'!!!!!!!!

Thank you all for your thoughts. Snoopy slept all night and ate his food this morning. He still crys on standing up and if we touch the leg, but can walk on it. We'll watch him and if it doesnt get any worse, we'll wait until tomorrow before going to our vet- dont want to call the vet out on another false alarm! Today is a holiday. Susi will be getting more walks with Dave on their own. I fear we shall have to stop them from sleeping upstairs incase this happens again. The reason we have a stair-gate, is because our last beagle hurt her back and was not allowed to climb stairs anymore.
Bye the way,how many of your countries celebrate Nov 1st?

Sounds like dear Snoopy pulled a muscle. They do something wrong and get sort of a giant painful condition we call a 'Charley Horse' here in the States. The Bagel has done that a couple times, I take him to our vet who verifies nothing more serious, prescribes rest, lack of excitement and strenous activity and a weeks potion of muscle relants. I built him a ramp so he could get in our bed and three or four days later he was bored and wanting to run. It would be good to verify that is not a more serious joint or leg problem, the Bagel actually cracked a leg bone another time, that led to two weeks reduced activity and another potion I had to sprinkle on his kibble.

Poor snoopy, it does sound like a muscle pull, Bonnie sometimes gets them and with her being such a wus she goes around like someones shot her in the leg, then the next day she is as right as rain again.

As you know we do not celebrate Nov 1. What holiday is it? Is it All Saints Day?

Yes, Nov 1st is All Saints Day, so I suppose it is just in Catholic areas thats its a holiday.
Snoopy didnt want to go for a walk this afternoon so I stayed with him whilst Dave took Susi. However, as soon as he heard me filling their food bowls, Snoopy was in the kitchen! If there is no marked improvement by the morning we shall take him to the vet, just to rule out more serious things.

Poor Snoopy!! I hope he feels better very soon. I'm always just as upset as the animal is when I'm going through any illness or pain my baby has to suffer.

In the U.S. we have very few National Holidays. All Saints Day is a Holyday and a must attend Mass day for Catholics.

Snoopy was in great pain this morning and couldnt put his head down enough to reach his food. That was it, off to the vet we went. He couldnt detect spinal damage so gave Snoopy an injection to relax the muscles. Snoopy was soon a changed dog and ran from the car back to the house!! We have tablets for the weekend and have to return to the vets on Monday. He was quite worried and told us to watch that Snoopy can pee o.k and the rest. It could be dangerous if he held his urine due to pain . So far no trouble there. The vet also said the heart valve problem was still clear to hear. Anyway Snoopy seems fine at the moment, but is happy to use his basket in the lounge rather than the couch. We are stopping him jumping or going up and down the stairs. Very depressing but our little lad seems happy tonight- Susi keeps getting into the basket with him. It is so wonderful to see the love between two dogs.
