She is going to be grumpy /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif tonight with no food or snacks...
I'm just glad it's tomorrow, I've been so nervous-since she's a rescue we don't know her age, and I did not want her to go into heat with that nice black lab next door! He might be neutered, though.
poor baby, I know it's for the best. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

One other benefit I have heard of spaying before the first heat is that the risk of breast cancer later in life is reduced significantly
This is also true of cats. My daughter was fearful of having her cat Ashes spayed, and she was almost a year, I believe, when we finally convinced her it was best. Sadly, Ashes did develop breast cancer at about age 8 and a half, and passed away last summer. I believe, and have read several things that confirmed it, that if she'd been spayed at 6 months, she probably wouldn't have gotten cancer.
