Does anyone else out there have a beagle who pees A LOT?? Our little Ginger pees when you come to put her collar on, when a stranger pets her, when we pet her sometimes .... she just squats and pees. I guess it's either excitement or fear but .... I'm wondering if it will ever stop?

I'm not exaggerating ... on our last vet trip, she peed 7 times on the table when the vet was just looking at her! The vet thought it was very weird and actually tested her for a urinary infection. A local dog trainer has said it is a way of being totally submissive and telling you to please not hurt her - she is all yours!

I don't know but .... I thought she would grow out of it ... she's now 15 months old and still does it.

That is weird... and if the vet checked her - I really don't know. It probably is a very extreme submissive reaction....
I would try to check with a dog behavior specialist again. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Sounds like Ginger is very submissive. Has she had any bad experiences?

No, she hasn't had any bad experiences! We got her when she was 8 weeks old so .... she's been with us since the very beginning. That's what is so weird about it.

Well, there was that time when I "threw" her onto the patio .... that's what my husband says to make me feel bad! :raspberry: It was raining and the girls wouldn't go out in the rain so I was carrying her and she started wiggling like crazy and literally jumped out of my arms onto the patio landing on her back leg/buttock area. She limped for a day (after an emergency vet visit thinking she had broken her leg!!) Other than that, there's been nothing bad in her life!!

Amber used to do that all the time too. The vet said it was a submissive behavior. We used to have to let her out on the front patio whenever people came over or else she'd be peeing all over the hallway. We couldn't let her in until she'd calmed down.

My beagle only pees when his favorite people (i.e. either one of my uncles, or my uncle-in-law) come to our house. First, he zoomies then stops in front of the person and pees a small amount, zooms away again before stopping in front of the person and pees some more. I have a hard time cleaning after him

But when he gets excited, like in a game, he drips. Other than that, he only pees when we go for walks.

When Zeus was very little he peed so much that one day I went though 2 rolls of paper towels (thank goodness for tile floors!)

He kept this up for months but is now very good at going in the right place. :happyhappy:

The last time he peed was in my car. I was taking him to the vet to be neutered in the morning in my brand new car (one week old) and he peed in the back seat.

I think he was telling me something... :conf6:

Snoopy does that ( he's 5 1/2 months old). He's quite a submissive pup though so I'm sure with him it's due to that. He generally does it in combination with his little slinky body bendy beagle dance ( you know the one where the whole body bends and they poke themselves in the eye with their own tail).
He's not had any bad experiences that I know of.

Sherri,

Don't take adoghouse's comment personally. rgey didn't know you had Ginger from a pup. Many of us have rescue beagles and have history on them before we adopted them. Submissive behavior is one of the traits many have.

Ginger is probably just excited. But is does sound like she may have to greet guests outside.

Oh, don't worry. I didn't take a doghouse's comment personally at all. I appreciate any comments or suggestions whenever I post. Thanks for making sure I was OK though!
