My husband and I both had beagles as kids (20+ yrs ago). We just adopted an 8 wk old beagle mix yesterday. She's still very skittish and aclimating to her new surroundings and her new sister (an 8 month old Havanese/Bichon).

So our question is what are her back legs supposed to look like? If you're looking at her from behind, she looks like she's been riding on a saddle (legs spread and rounded like a U). When she starts walking and her tail goes up, it's not as noticeable, which makes me think it's just stress and she's unsure. It almost looks like she's tucking her butt under when she's standing.

Opinions?

Do you have a pic? What is she mixed with? Being a crossbreed it will be really hard to tell what traits she will have of either parent breeds... with crossbreeds there is really no way they are supposed to look like - they are a genetic gamble.

Are her legs wobbly or causing her any apparent pain? I'm sure it's nothing to worry about

Welcome to the BW pack!

Pics help. But any real determination of a problem should be made by your vet. So your next trip in, ask. But if Meg is running around and happy, then most likely nothing is wrong. If it is, its probably nothing too serious.

Two of my beagles (both tri-colored) look a little bow legged to me at times. I've decided that I really think it is just the colors that make it look that way though.

I wouldn't be concerned really until she's been with you for a month or two and you have time to get to know her and vice-versa. Also if she is a little bow legged it may only take a little growth to get her past it.

Any idea what she is mixed with? Perhaps the second breed mixed in there could have a more round legged stance also. Hard to say, but I don't think it is anything medically wrong.

Of course if she develops any other symptoms then a trip to the vet is certainly in order.

They have no idea what she's mixed with. A rumor was a rat terrier, but there's no way to tell. Her mom was definitely beagle.

She's not in any pain and runs and scampers like a normal puppy. And yes, next time she's at the vets, I will be asking them, but I didn't want to make a special trip if it wasn't necessary.

Took some doing, but here's a picture of Meg from behind. The bottom picture looks more normal to me.

Is that the cutest little beagle butt or what!!

Butt seriously, hehe, the legs look fine to me. All three of mine looks different from the rear.

Welcome aboard. How about a up front shot, which I am sure is just as cute as the back end.

She looks normal to me too. They do tend to look a little bow legged when they are this young. I have a pic of my dog Rosa as a puppy that looks just like the first one of yours. I'll post it later when I get home from work.

Thank you so much! I'm a paranoid dog mommy (especially when they're this new!). I'm glad she looks normal, and I figured that would be the case.

I'm attaching a probably not so good picture of Meg's face. She's so squirmy it's hard to get a good shot. Thanks for compliments on her. I think she's pretty cute too!

Beautiful, front and back.
Winston looks bow legged too. And when he stands at the window on his hind legs, he looks like he should be wearing pants.

It doesn't look like anything to worry about, she might even grow out of it as she develops.

I would definitely agree she could have some sort of terrier in her, will be interesting to see what she looks like when she finishes growing!
