Hello, I am an expectant beagle mom. I have been searching the web for a puppy and last week I found a little 8 week old that grabbed our hearts right from his picture. we will be picking him up from the breeder in a few weeks when we travel to GA to look for a new home near our grandchildren. RIght now we live in So FL but in November we will move. I grew up with dogs but since we were singers and traveled a great deal it was not possible to keep one. I was thrilled that my husband said he wanted me to look for one for my birthday. I want to be the best beagle mom I can be so give me any advice you have. I have looked at a few books but there are so many. Can you recommend some? I soon as I figure out how I will put up his picture. We have named him Miggy after our favorite Marlins player Miguel Cabrerra.

Welcome to the world of beagles and welcome to Beagle World. The only "beagle" book I ever purchased was "Training your Beag;e" and while I found it useful, I have found the forum I was on then (Dogkunction, com) and the forum the developed when that forum went away (Beagle World) much more useful. I suspect if it is in a book, several of us have also had that challenge and will be glad to share our successes and failures with different approaches. When you get Miggy, there a bunch of us who love puppy pictures. Many, like me, only have rescued adults and there is nothing like a puppy pic to put a smile on your face. Welcome to Beagle World.

Welcome to the BW pack!

A new puppy? House breaking should be your first order of business, crate training as well if you decide to go that way. For training I would start with puppy socialization classes. Just getting him used to other dogs. Then move up to formal obedience classes. Find a pet store or trainer new you. Ask to watch how they conduct a class before signing up just to see if it suits you.

Thanks, Bob and Bagel, I'm seeing that you are right on. I've been reading and there is a gold mine of info here. I'll be asking the questions like crazy I'm sure. Wish I'd had a support group like this with my kids. Have a great day with Bagel. By the way I love looking at the pics too, young and grown.

Welcome to Beagle World! I haven't had a beagle puppy for years since my Li'l Girl is a rescue and was grown when we adopted her. Bob and Murphy's Dad have already offered good advice. What part of Georgia will you be moving to?

Hi Sandyj, Charlie and I will be moving to Savannah, Wilmington Island to be specific. My daughter and her husband and kids and my son and his wife, son and 3 scotties live on the island and we are looking forward to being within walking distance of them all. So Miggy will have lots of extended family both human and canine. I have never raised a puppy. I grew up with a wonderful dog but don't remember his puppyhood. I sure am looking forward to motherhood again but I think maybe it will be harder than my first baby. I'm so happy to find all of you for encouragement. The web can be such a wonderful place can't it.

A big welcome to BW. We have two rescues but many on here have pups. First thing is to house-train the pup. You will need patience and loads of love. Looking forward to photos and details of your experiences with Miggy.
