Hi Everyone. In case you don't remember me, I wrote last week wondering whether my wife and I were "making a mistake". Well, we went to the local rescue adoption event and picked up 2 beagles. Oh by the way, they happen to be the cutest beagles on the planet. Obviously, yesterday was pretty stressful for them as they took the whole day getting used to their new surroundings and each other. They then spent the whole night sleeping without a peep. I think they felt a little more comfortable today and fortunately they do not:
o Beg at the table
o Jump on us
o Bark

They seem very well behaved - but they don't seem to be interested in any of their toys however. I guess it's still early for them. Anyway, here are some pictures:

I am so happy for you guys !! I'm glad they are settling in.....yesterday was a record for the rescue I believe. You were 2 of the 8 adoptions that were made in 1 1/2 hours.....that's right in the first half of the event we made 8 adoptions !!

I love their new names and they look like they have been there forever !!!

Thank You both for rescuing !!!

A huge welcome to Oscar and Kramer!! I am so thrilled that two more Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue pups have found their forever home. Looking forward to a report in a month to see if they still don't: beg, jump or bark! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Welcome to Oscar and Kramer! Great names and they are likely the 2 handsomest rescue beags on the planet. I also got my Miggy yesterday and I am sure he is the most adorable beag puppy ever! All he does is wriggle, squirm, kiss and love me up. Oh he chews every thing, grunts and sighs and oh yes aroooos. Isn't it wonderful? It's a beagle world when you're in love.

Well, Moosie (and a lot of other handsome rescue beagles on here!) might have a bit of an issue with that conclusion - but Oscar and Kramer (love the names too) are certainly adorable and look like they are settling in very well. We look forward to hearing all about their beagle-y exploits!

They are very handsome boys, and it's so nice that you found each other. My Li'l Girl didn't look that good when we adopted her, but my little chunk of coal turned into a real diamond with enough food, good care and lots of love.

What a wonderful pair. Did you learn anything of their pasts? Don't be surprised if one or both don't play, a couple of the rescues I've had either didn't know how to play or were afraid to play. If that is the case, one day a rescue will dare (or learn) to play. They do shed their rescue baggage and it is cause for celebration when they do. So glad you decided on a pair. Do let us know all those little endearing things that rescues begin to do when they come to realize they really have a forever home P:)

They are beautiful. You can teach them that it is okay to play with their toys. Only take them out at specific times and only one at a time. Rotate the toys when they get tired of them. Make toys part of your play/snuggle time together. Make them special and they will like them more. Thank you for giving two such gorgeous beagles the second chance they deserve. We are here if you have questions.

Of our three rescues, only two play with toys. Booker has never given a toy even a second glance. Moose and Popcorn both love to play with toys, however - although with Popcorn it did take her a little while after we rescued here before she was confident enough to just play (she was a real scaredy dog when she arrived). Now the best part of playing with toys for Popcorn is the part where she steals them away from Moosie and makes him chase her around the house to get them back! Moosie's favourite part of playing with stuffed toys is to make a little hole in them and then pull out ALL of the stuffing with his little front teeth.

My rescued Maggie never learned how to play with toys, in spite of lots of attempts on my part. I recently saw a segment on "America's Funniest Home Videos" where a little boy tossed a ball at his dog and it bopped the dog on the nose. The boy kept doing this and the dog just sat there, getting hit. That's my Maggie. She doesn't have a clue! That said, we have made up some games over the years --her favorite is "big boy is coming", a chase game. I have no recollection how it started but she loves it. I can always tell if she is not feeling good -- no motivation to play chase.

It took months before my Henry became confident enough to give his first "aroo".

He doesn't do it often but I get a kick out of watching him arooo at the darndest things: a branch on a tree swaying in the breeze, the garbage truck, our American Flag on the pole up front...I love hearing my Henry "arroo"!
