My introduction....."short story"

Hi,
My name is Joe aka Sammy's Daddy, and I've been lurking around for six months or so. I have to say that this site is awesome. I really enjoy reading about and seeing all of the wonderful beagles here at BW! Now a little about my little corner of BW. I finally got permission from the landlord and my darling wife to get a dog. Having grown up with a (rescue)beagle, I knew someday that I was going to have one again. A beagle was my only requirement. I didn't care if it was a puppy or adult, it just had to be a beagle.
So the search was on!

I started out looking at petfinder and some other online rescue sites and they were either to far away or there was some other stipulation that wouldn't work. I was so anxious to find a beagle that I wanted one now, but was getting somewhat frustrated that I couldn't find one. Not that this was a bad thing, cause I'm certainly glad there weren't many in the shelters around here. It broke my heart to see\read about all of the animals in shelters. Anyway back to the search. Finally on October 23, 2006 I was reading the local paper at lunch, and in the classifieds was an ad for a 6 month old female beagle for sale. I was so happy to see this ad I called the number and the guy answered and I made arrangements to go see her that night after work. My day couldn't get over fast enough! I just new I was going to have a beagle before the night was over. So after work we hopped in the truck with mapquest directions in hand and drove about 25 minutes to the guys house. When we pulled up I was like "people live here?" My wife almost went back to the truck, it creeped her out so bad. It was also really cold, and misting out. We walked up the sidewalk and around the corner, there she was this little beagle tied up to a dog house. As soon as we made eye contact she came running right to me and jumped up, with tail a wagging and her little beagle nose going a 100 MPH. It was love at first sight! I picked her up, (muddy feet and all) and just gave her the biggest hug she'd probably ever had. Instantly I noticed she was covered with fleas, her ears were (stinky)infected, and she was so skinny, I just couldn't believe it. I ended up haggling the guy down to next to nothing for her, since she was obviously going to need to see the vet and it wasn't going to be cheap. The next day we went to the vet and found out she had hook worms, fleas, ear mites, and was slighly malnourished. We got Sammy all taken care of, and I couldn't have ordered a better beagle. She is the most loving dog I have ever met. Granted she is a beagle and has her beagle issues, but she's my little Sammy girl and I wouldn't trade her for anything.

Thanks for reading my story, and give your beagle a hug from Sammy and I. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Thank you Sammy's daddy for rescuing your Cinderella-Sammy and giving her a beautiful chance at the life she deserved. I found my Calvin and Maggie (both rescues) and "knew" instantly they were "mine" too.

There are many here with rescues....thanks so much for making my day by posting your story.
LOVED that story! Sammy truly has the face of an angel and like they say, "you are good people".

Where did those people get Sammy from? I wonder how long she lived like that.

My Henry is a rescue and my first real beagle and like you, I'm sold.

If Sammy could talk, she would say, "thank you, Dadddy, for letting me be your little girl". But those beagle eyes say it all, don't they?

Welcome to BW from Henry and I.

Welcome to beagle world!! I am so glad that you rescued Sammy. What a sweetie  Big hugs from Hunter and Casey!!
Yeah for happy endings!

What a great story
Poor Sammy!!! I'm so glad you've found her!! Welcome to Beagle World!
What a great story, it reminds me somewhat of mine when I found my first 2 beags-then the last one that showed up at my house-if you want to know the story I will be happy to email you-but don't want to bore everyone else here with all the details.

You and Sammy were definitely made for each other, and it couldnt have happened in a more perfect way for you !

I am wondering-I bet your Sammy has had some lingering affects from being in such a bad spot? Just curious..

Well, good luck, feel free to jump in on any conversations or anything. We ALL LOVE stories and pictures and everything, never feel stupid-we ALL love our beagles!!

(ok, some of us more than others-considering I sleep with 3 beagles in my bed!! LOL)

A big arrroooo to you and Sammy! We are yet another member here with rescue beagles - three of them - and look forward to sharing lots of stories, pictures and advice.
I thought I posted here before. Oh well.

Welcome to the BW pack!
Great story. Sammy looks to be about the same age as my Suzi was when we got her. Suzi, too, is a rescue, although the woman who had picked her up at the local library had taken her to the vet and she was living in a beautiful home. We've had her nine years and she still amazes us.

Congrats on becoming a new beagle parent. The adventure begins now.
Hi and welcome to BW

That's a great story. So many of our dogs come to us seemingly by miraculous happenstance. It seems to be really true that our animals choose us. Sammy was waiting for you and because she was meant only for you, no one else, you had to wait 'til the exact right time.

Daisy sends arrooos to Sammy. She's our miracle baby and the lovingest girl ever.

Apparently we're as bad as you Judi, i told my husband that we needed a bigger bed before we get another beagle, and he's going start making a frame for a new king sized bed as soon as he finishes his current woodworking project! Our Scooter takes up way too much room in our current double bed! LOL

Welome to the Board, Sammys Daddy, and Sammy too!
What a GREAT story! You and Sammy are so lucky to have found each other!!
