I love this dog so much. When I take him for walks, I get compliments on his behavior and training. I know that the reason is the bond that we share. A couple of things recently proved how strong our bond is, and what a funny dog Boh is. Here are a few examples.

We have an upper level deck with steps down to the yard. I didn't check the yard, as we started down the steps. At the last minute, I saw a small bunny in our path. Boh saw the bunny too. The bunny started to run. Boh started to chase. I yelled, "No! Leave it!" He immediately stopped and came back to me. I think any time you can call a 'mostly' beagle off a rabbit, that is pretty special.

Every day, I put Boh's food bowl on the floor. I might say, "Here ya go buddy." We are way past the need for me to make him sit and wait for his food. He doesn't gobble his meal down. He doesn't rush the bowl and knock it out of my hand. It's been forever since I've given him a formal release. But, I guess he considers, "Here ya go" as permission. The other day, I put his bowl down. I quickly left to do some chores. When I came back, Boh was still sitting a good distance from his food bowl, not eating. I hadn't said anything to him, before I left. I thought that was the funniest thing. What beagle does that? LOL!

I promise when my perfect dog does something wrong, I will post about it.

Hey Jan,
Boh is a special boy. I’m not sure if I could stop my beagles from bunnies. This is the third year in a row we have a nesting mommy bunny IN our fence. We have a “bunny protection plan”. Little Ella had to have been a hunter in her previous life. She keeps looking at me with those sultry beagle eyes as if to say “come on mom I’ll be nice”. No luck !! Last year it was Oliver. Even though he was going through chemotherapy he still wanted to just “taste” the bunnies.
2/3 of my current pack are pretty good at commands. Ella.. she is new and a work in progress. It’s amazing how devoted Boh is to you. I guarantee that I couldn’t leave a bowl down and they not eat it. Actually I have to be careful with the grill, trash and just about anything in a glass. Lol

As I’ve said before Buddy is really my first dog. I didn’t know what I was doing when I brought him home but I did what seemed right. I was constantly interacting with him, taking him for walks, playing with him, and taking him places. He really is a well behaved doggy but he does at times push the boundaries. Typical Beagle. Everyone though is really impressed at how well behaved he is. That is until we go for a walk. Then his Beagle self kicks in and all of the Beagle traits. I’ve always felt it was fine to let him be himself and do what is natural. We will be walking along and he will find a spot to explore. Nose to the ground and snuffling. It’s what he’s been breed to do and who he is. He will never walk calmly by my side and we will play tug-o-war when he gets wants to go left and I right. However I feel that the mental stimulation is the key. Wear him out physically and mentally and I have a happy doggy. I’m far from an expert but this has been my experience with The Budster.

I think if you raise a dog to suit your lifestyle, it's great. Your dog doesn't have to meet my expectations and my dog doesn't have to meet yours. Buddy sounds like a really good boy. Boh can and will walk calmly at my side. He will also stop and sniff. But, when I say come, he must. I was strict with my human kids too. But I still got three Mother's Day presents. :ROFLMAO:
That’s what’s interesting about Bud. His behavior changes depending on who’s walking him. With me he is a bit rebellious because we have always gone for long walks where I’ve allowed him to be himself. With my Mom he is right there and listens to her. He’s a smart little spud. He’s not I’ll mannered or miss behaving. He’s just Bud.

They are smart all right. Boh gets away with a lot from hubby. Boh automatically sits at every corner. Hubby gives him no clear release. So Boh does his own thing. I don't like "pee mail" I don't think Boh needs to mark every single object along the way. If he needs to pee - pee. I swear he saves it up, just so he can mark. Even when he is on empty he will still lift his leg. I don't mind other dogs peeing on my lawn - pooping either, as long the owner cleans it up. But I hate when owners allow their dog to mark on my nice new retaining wall and/or my flowers. I correct Boh every time he starts to mark a neighbors' garden. Sadly, I am the only family member who enforces this rule. LOL!
