more dogstration

this morning i woke up at 5 am to use the bathroom. when i got back, sophie left me a huge turd pile right in the middle of the bedroom doorway. of course by the time i cleaned it up, i had dog poop all over my feet, hands and knees. needless to say i haven't gotten much sleep today.
yesterday we spent most of the day at the beach, and she never pooped more than a teaspoon all day long. i thought that was odd. i don't know why she did that, but i think her flower is beginning to bloom, if you know what i mean.
there was a few drops of blood this morning.
do they do this when they begin their cycle, or am i just lucky?

Re: more dogstration

I haven't noticed mine pooping any more during estrus - tho they sometimes tend to urinate more frequently. They normally have their first heat cycle at around 6 months - tho that is NOT etched in stone. I don't know how old Sophie is - but if you're planning to breed here, PLEASE don't consider breeding before she's 2 years old. If you're not planning to breed her, I'd suggest having her spayed as soon as this cycle is complted. Most of my dogs are spayed or neutered (and I currently am owned by 12 beagles) - unless you have a dog with a great pedigree I always suggest spaying or neutering, as the case may be.

Re: more dogstration

My beagle pups have all been about 9 months before they had their first cycles. I have not had one loose bowel control, but I have experienced them needing to urinate a lot more frequently and also a few accidents in the house again rather than going outside. It's frustrating, but I figure they can't really help it.

Re: more dogstration

I agree about spaying. Our first two beagles weren't spayed and we had unwanted pregnancys from both. Male dogs can be a real pest when the bitches are on heat. Our two urinated a lot more but had no problems with bowels.
It is so much better with our present two both being spayed/neutered.
Good luck anyway.
