as the title says, Monty is being stranger then usual. He just won't tire out today. we've been playing and walking. I'M exhasuted, but he's just running around with his tounge hanging out, panting away!! I need to get his nails clipped, everytime he jumps up on me he scratches me...I don't know how to get him to stop jumping up when he's so excited /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif Any suggestions?

I was told a firm NO and turning your body away would stop that when you do it consistently. However, I must say I never tried that and eventually my beagle just grew out of it. He does jump once in a while, but when he's very excited, he has resorted to running in circles instead. When he was younger, he could stay awake and keep himself as well as me busy for almost 15 hours straight :animal18:

Another thing you can try is taking really yummy treats and holding one of them above Monty in the air. When he jumps up for it, you just ignore his behavior and make sure that he doesnt get the treat. At some point he will them calm down and probably sit, when he does that you can give him the treat. If you repeat that a lot he will learn that it's better to stay on the floor.

You can also try grabbing his front paws when he jumps up and not letting go until you notice that he really doesn't like being held like that. If you do that every time he jumps up he will eventually associate jumping up with being held umcomfortably on the paws and will stop doing it.
