I just toook Molly out to wee and when she finished, she seemed to be dribbing and some blood came out too!! I noticed the dribbling pee yesterday and today she is acting crabby, for lack of a better word.

She is a 2 year old spayed female -- does this sound like a UTI?? I have always had male dogs and am not used to the girlies.

I think I will try and catch a sample for the vet and take it in tomorrow AM. They are closed today for the holiday and Molly seems fine otherwise. The sample will be fun - she pees about a quarter of an inch from the ground!!

Don't panic -- blood in urine is a symptom of a UTI. The first time my Maggie passed a large clot of blood I totally panicked only to find out that it was due to the lining of the bladder being irritated by the infection. Try and get the first urine of the morning -- if you have a metal pie plate, you can slide it under her as she pees. Then pour it into a new plastic cup and cover the top. It is tricky -- if you can't get it, then offer lots of water so the vet can get a sample when you take her in. Maggie just finished three weeks of Baytril for a UTI -- vet said the antibiotics would kick in very quickly and they did. She was much better after only two doses. Let us know what the vet says.

Thanks for the info and encouragement. Its so hard with 3 dogs to keep track of everyone!! Its a definate though, she just went out twice in 45 mins to pee (not normal for her) and I saw more blood. Then both Jake and Andy were sniffing her behind area. Poor baby. She's sleeping now.

Afternoon update - Molly does have an infection and I started her on meds when I went home for lunch. I hope she feels better quick, I know how yucky those can make you feel. She still is pretty perky but I can tell she is off.

Poor Molly! The meds start to work quickly though so she should be feeling better soon. Give her some extra kisses and belly rubs from me and Jersey.

Poor Molly. Our Sadie has had her share of UTI's. Luckily the antibiotics clear it up very quickly. Feel better baby!

Glad she's feeling better. I had to drop my client's cat off at the vet yesterday - we think SHE has a UTI - she is NOT a good patient - we can't give her pills (I have enough wounds from my dogs, I refuse to get clawed by someone else's cat), she won't eat canned food - or any human food, so can't crush them and get them into her that way - we've tried with the liquid antibiotics - yeah, right! We wear them. So we have injectable antibiotics this time. As a caregiver, I'm NOT supposed to do ANYTHING for pets of clients - but I feel it is part of my job in caring for clients to help. I don't mind cleaning out litter pans, don't even mind staying over 3 hours to take her to the vet - but I draw the line at getting mauled by mad cats! Client is diabetic so she's accustomed to giving shots - so we'll try this. To be honest, the vet has suggested having the cat pts - since this is an ongoing problem and she is a problem to treat, but Ruth will not even consider that. She might if the damned cat doesn't stop peeing on her couch - she had to buy a new one because the last time she had a uti she RUINED the old one.

Molly is still getting much better - yay! She is a good pill taker.

Glenda, giving kitties pills is definately NOT fun. The vet kept showing me a way to just put the pill in, close the mouth and then rub the throat until they swallowed --- but my kitty would 90% of the time spit it back at me!!

Dogs are definately easier when it comes to meds !

Molly's Mom...Its funny to see you say dogs are easier for you because I am much better at pilling cats than dogs. When Maggie was a baby I put her pills in cheese because I couldn't get them down her but I can give a pill to almost any cat because I have had a lot of practice

My friends GSD hates taking pills and he is a very sick dog. They always had problems giving him pills. When I babysat him for a week a few years ago, he was on another course of antibiotics. I placed the pill in my hand, and handed it to him. He licked it off of my hand, and chewed and swallowed it.

They were is SHOCK!! They are still fighting him everytime he needs meds

I find that certains thing work with certain pills. Jake and Molly both have to take a large capsule type pillonce a day and peanut butter works great for that. I put the pill in the peanut butter with a few chips of kibble on top, so they don't sense the pill texture.

For Molly's tablet pill she is taking for the UTI, I use canned pumpkin. That serves 2 purposes - hides the pill and also helps to keep her from getting antibiotic diarrhea.
