Hello everyone, I am reaching out trying to seek some advice for my pet. I have had her since she was 2 and she is almost 9 now she does suffer from anxiety her whole life but now it has spiked like crazy. I have been stressing out on trying to find a solution to my issue. My beagle was never fearful of anything besides thunder and fireworks. Recently she has been super afraid of the sound of trucks and busses to the point where she did not want to walk outside at all, then over time it moved to her not wanting to go outside at all in the backyard too. I took her to the vet and they same maybe she's in pain somewhere in her neck or back and advised to get her a new harness. So I did, also we have been giving her Trazodone and Gabapentin daily but still nothing she does not want to go out to the backyard during the day. The way we do take her out is by carrying her physically out but rarely she'll pee on the floor too and also recently I have been putting diaper on her to see if anything I don't know. I also have noticed that in the morning when I get up I take her out her cage and I close it and when I tell her lets go out she goes fine like how she used to but after that no luck at all she'll hide in a corner or behind the door or run back to her cage so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong and if anyone has tips or advice I would much appreciate it. Thank you.

Geez i dont know why Vets go to the same..."it may be a neck or back problem"..and prescribe pain medications that just puts them zoned out.
Any chance your dog moves slowly or shake at all? There is a condition called "Beagle Pain Syndrome".. thing is its Meningitis. My vet never heard of it. PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR DOGS MOVEMENTS...
If that is the case then the pain medications do nothing.. get the dog on a round of Prednisone and off the pain meds.
Google...Beagle Pain Syndrome
My dog was better after the first few Prednisone doses and hasnt had a problem since.
My vet wanted to do an MRI for $2,000..that wouldnt treat the condition except you have a big bill.

I found that Trazadone made Oliver pace around, get up a lot, not able to settle. All meds have side effects too, the more they are on the more size effects. You can try some natural calming aids like DAP spray, Thundershirt, Quiet Moments calming aid. I found that my beagles personalities changed when they became senior age.

My vet was always into diagnostics. Sometimes I questioned the usefulness of all the tests when Ally was getting diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome - it only confirmed what he suspected and the treatment was the same with or without the tests, but he was being diligent and for people like me who fall into the trap of "better to be sure", it can get expensive!

The first thing I thought of was perhaps her hearing or eyesight is diminishing, but since she's been to the vet, it would rule that out. Did something happen outside to scare her? It is surprising that it spiked suddenly making me think she got spooked vs a medical issue. I would suggest watching her closely to see what triggers it. Start with tiny trips (even if not potty time) with reward treats for stepping outside and then bring her back in; gradually stay out longer and longer and see if it helps (its called counter-conditioning, if you want to look it up). If you can distract her with treats, it might take her mind of the anxiety. Here's a good article on fears/anxiety that might help you pin it down: Help - My Dog Is Scared of Going Outside!.

Just FYI, I have heard of people successfully litter training beagles I have never tried it.
