Has anyone had their beagle affected by mast cell tumors? Oliver has had two removed previously (latest on 01/04/10) and another one just popped up. I made a promise to Oliver and myself that I wouldn't subject him to any further surgeries, so I'm just looking for any insight.

So sorry to hear about Olivers tumours - I've personally never heard of mass cell tumours in any of the beagles I know. Is this a life-threatening type of tumour or benign - it must be a really difficult time for you and Oliver, best wishes x

Sorry Oliver is having to go through this. My current dog, a beagle, hasn't had this diagnosis, but I had a Jack Russell that did. It was on his ankle and the vets ignored it even after it was brought to their attention. By the time we got him to a specialist it had progressed too quickly into his lymphatic system and we only had him for about a month after his diagnosis. It was difficult to go through, mostly because we didn't have any options. I hope Oliver is able to overcome this.

Thank you so much for the replies. The vet didn't see any cancer cells when the aspirated, so we dodged a bullet - this time. They say the mast cell tumors spread all over and can begin to affect all organs. The place on his leg may be a fat mass. Poor thing has had 5 major surgeries and we've decided not to put him through anything else.

I am so glad to hear it is not cancer.

Hugs and belly rubs to Oliver!
