Owen Wilson. I checked IMDB.com (Internet Movie Data Base) and it still lists the movie as "In production". Jennifer Anniston is slated to star as his wife.

I loved Marley and Me and Bea's Story as well. Marley and Me stayed on the best seller list for a long, long time, I think. It's a wonderful book! I hate to be a wet blanket, though, but I'm concerned that a movie would be dumbed down for kids. I noticed the other night at the library a copy of "Marley and Me For Kids", which I didn't have time to look at, unfortunately. But I'm assuming that it's the basic story, omitting the parts about the miscarriage, and the wife's post partum depression, and when she ordered John to get rid of Marley. Things like that. I just hope they don't make the movie silly.

:conf6: I never thought of that. And you're not a wet blanket. I know I'm always slightly disappointed with movies based on books. (especially The Bridges of Madison County!) I hope we're not disappointed.

Genie, that's a great point.

I usually can't decipher underlying themes in books more than I can built a rocket to the moon. But, in my opinion, Marley & Me was about a dog that becomes part of a family and sticks with them through thick and thin -- just like all of our dogs (beagles or otherwise) would. Just having a dog share in your happy moments is nice, but as a part of your family they comfort and help you through the bad times as well.

That being said, maybe kids shouldn't be exposed to awful things at too young an age, who knows. I do hope the movie shows the challenges (successful and otherwise) that young families go through, and how a loyal companion can help along the way. Just my two cents (maybe not worth that much...).
