So, he was fine last nite and this morning. I had plans to over to a friend of mine's today and take him to the doggy beach which she lives right by. I couldn't tell anything was really wrong because he always gets nervous in car rides and might complain just a lil but today he started crying and pooped on my lap diarrhea /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

So I thought it might just be a little stomach upset. Anyhow he started acting really weird in her house and had some more diarrhea. Then he started acting disoriented and just walking towards his right and then in circles. He slept a little and then started doing it more and seemed weak, couldn't see very well and very clumsy like falling all over the place and in pain.

The doctor said it was intoxication and they're running tests right now. I let him play in the courtyard where there's some plants and leaves. I had seen one hanging out his mouth from one of the plants and when I tried to get it off, he swallowed it. I really don't know what it was that did it though. He might stay over nite, it just depends on how he reacts after they give him charcoal and fluids. I have to call in an hour and check on him. He was like crying really bad on the way to hospital. These bills are no joke either. I hope everything turns out ok. Have any of your pets been intoxicated?

How scary for you and Marco! Poor little guy probably doesn't know what is happening to him! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

Keep us posted on his stay at the hospital. Lucky there is a place in your area to help him...imagine living in the country where there is no immediate help. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

This is a good reminder to those of us who have currious chewers that you have to remember plants along with everything else that can make them sick.

Waiting to hear more on Marco and keeping fingers crossed that this will be over soon.

Poor little guy! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif I hope the vet can find out what caused the intoxication, and I hope Marco recovers quickly.

Poor Marco - sure hope he is okay. Ours have never eaten bad plants to our knowledge, but our middle beagle Moose did eat something when at the beach one day and got really sick. They didn't ever find out exactly what it was but think it was some sort of drug that beach partyers had left behind. He threw up, acted really disoriented and his heart was racing for a day or so - they kept him in the vet to make sure he was okay but he recovered and was fine in due course. Hope Marco gets through it all as well.

Poor Marco! Nope, ours have never had that illness. We have had a lot of other illnesses, but not that one.

Keep us posted. I'm sure he will be fine and back home soon.

We have made 2 trips to the emergency vet from Duke eating what he shouldn't. Once was a plant and the other was an aspiring. The good thing is both times, he was fine by the next day and made a full recovery.

We had another recent incident where he ate what we thought were green apricots, but now we realize it was probably mushrooms because we found them in our yard. He was sick, but not enough to go to the er and was fine by the next day, thank goodness. Now I have to do daily mushroom searches. Ugh. Duke will chew on anything, so I have to always be on the look out.

Hope Marco makes a full recovery and is back to beagle self really soon. Poor little thing.

I called the hospital. They said he was resting comfortably, they had to give him a valium earlier to relax him because he was having a fit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif The blood tests came back fine and the toxicology reports came back negative. So, they really can't tell me what it was. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/exactly.gif They're watching him through the nite. They've been giving him fluids and will give him another dose of the charcoal in the middle of the nite. I miss my baby. Thanks guys.

Abby has never been intoxicated... beagles do tend to get into trouble, especially when the weather is nice and they're outside investigating.

Hope Mischievous Marco gets better very quickly!

I don't even know how to start. This is bizarre and I'm in shock and devastated. The tests came back negative and even though he doesn't have diarrhea, he's practically blind. That's why he goes around in circles. They referred me to a neurological specialist emergency hospital where he could get another diagnosis. At this point they suspect it's neurological. The doctor that will see him will be in later today but another one of the vets that saw him asked me if his head had always been that big and that he suspected hydrocephaly (liquid in his brain that doesn't drain due to some disorder) even it was just a speculation. If that was the case, there's really nothing they would be able to do. So, I'm shocked, sad to say the least, anxious and feel very guilty to think anything that i may have done might have caused any of this. It's all so sudden and I don't know why it's happening. Anyhow I will follow up with the doctor a little later. Meanwhile he's hospitalized. This is a nightmare for me but I pray to God he'll come out of this. I have to believe things happen for a reason and it will be ok. Please pray for him. I'll be here doing some research on all this.
