Yesterday was quite eventful at my house! My toddler figured out how to unlock and open our sliding glass door and screen. Well, before I could get across the room, Lucky took the invitation to take off out the door. He was GONE! We have a wooded creek then a hole on the golf course behind us. I could see his tail through the brush and hear the rustling, but he would not come when called. For two and a half hours he ran back and forth up and down and thru the creek. When I would call him, he would come to where I could see him, but not to where I could catch him. I was so angry, but you could tell Lucky was having the time of his life! He has never gotten that kind of freedom before. I guess he finally got hungry and came to me with my food enticement and close enough to get the leash on him. While it was not really his fault, I just wanted to wring his neck!! He smelled terrible and had to have a bath immediately. And for whatever reason, the excursion made him think it was ok to pee and poop in the house. He was completely wired the rest of the afternoon, too!

To think, I got up yesterday morning and said, I think I will take the dogs to doggie day care today. If only I hadn't changed my mind, how much better a day it would've been! Always go with that first thought!!!!

Oh, the joy of beagles!!!!

Charlie has figured out a way to open the front storm door. He went for a run the other day, but it only lasted about 5 minutes before the neighbor started their car and he came back. Charlie hates the sound of cars and trucks. Especially diesels.

Ugh, I am sure you were spent after all of that! Roscoe slipped out of his collar once on walk. My husband came home dripping with sweat b/c he was running through the woods trying to catch him while Roscoe did the same exact thing as Lucky!

Glad it didn't happen on my shift...

My beagles have been pretty good about not getting far when they get out - they've gone out maybe twice on their own, and they were so cowed by traffic and submissive to me that they stopped in the yard across the street to wait for me. But our former roommate's husky/lab mix escaped one day. Two friends and I ran after him until he started galloping down a middle lane of a busy street, and a kind stranger pulled over and tackled him for us. It's so worrying when they get out; they just don't understand how scared a dog's owner can be that the big, bad world is going to do bad things to them
Else they might not try so hard to escape!

Sounds familiar, my 2 used to run out the door when given a chance and they would run around the neighborhood looking for kitties, with us on their tails shaking treats and calling them, it was a sight to see especially when we weren't really dressed running in our Pj's. One of mine ran out the door about a week ago and I told the kids outside that she probably won't come back, so they chased her and I got my shoes on and treats and by the time I got outside she was running to me all freaked out because the boys found her and were running after her!

Oh my it's so scary when they get out. Glad Lucky got home safe and sound.

Rosa is so good, even if there's an opportunity to run off she never does. I think it's partly down to the fact that she gets a lot of freedom so never feels the need to make a run for it.

Thankfully Sherry has never escaped but if she did I'd be a wreck because she doesn't even turn round and look at me when I call her never mind come back

One good thing about Brandy, my newest addition, is she just likes to sniff the ground and snort and could care less about running...I just have to get used to the idea that she sounds about as classy as a pig snorting away.

Glad everything turned out okay for you yesterday!
