Some of you may recall the incident about a neighbor's pitbull biting Li'l Girl several months ago. Well, since we're just coming out of winter, etc., Dusty hasn't yet installed chicken wire behind the fence along the area adjoining this neighbor's driveway.

Today Li'l Girl was inside our fence, the pitbull was in the adjoining drive area, and Li'l Girl was barking through our fence. It happened again! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif The pitbull grabbed Li'l Girl and made deep puncture wounds in her cheek. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

I wasn't home when this happened, but I guess the neighbor had to hit the pitbull to get her to let go. Guess I'm probably lucky that my baby's still alive. I told Dusty that area must be reinforced with chicken wire, pronto.

Li'l Girl will be okay. She has some stitches, will have to wear a drain tube for a few days, and will be on antibiotics. We'll bring her home in the morning.

Thank goodness Li'l Girl will be okay! How about concrete instead of chicken wire? I think I would worry the dog would bite through the wire. Please give Li'l Girl gentle hugs from us when she comes home tomorrow.

poor Lil' Girl ... you would think the neighbor would be more aware of where their dog was after the first incident.

I sure hope she feels better soon. Be prepared for the drain tube...I cried when I saw Dakota after my vet put hers in .....

hugs and beagly kisses for you both !!

Report the damn dog! It needs to GO ASAP! :angryfire:

Our next door neighbor's girlfriend has her rott over when she stays over his house and sometimes Abby and I will be walking in the back yard and he charges at the fence, sometimes barking...I told Béla if that dog EVER comes after Abby (or me) I won't hesitate to shoot it...as much as I hate killing things.

Thanks, all, for your concern.

Judy,
We're talking 500 feet of fencing, so concrete isn't really an option. I really think that small wire would work, as it'd keep Li'l Girl from poking her head through.

Jamie,

We have a friendly relationship with these neighbors, and the dog was technically on their property. I am upset that other than the neighbor's saying, "Sorry," there's been no further inquiry as to how badly Li'l Girl was hurt.

Sandy,

Isn't it remarkable how a little care and concern by your neighbor could make you feel? I would be beside myself if my dog hurt another dog.

I'm glad that Lil Girl is OK. Don't get into any accidents by speeding to go pick her up tomorrow.

And, if you think about it...give her an extra gentle bit of luvin' from Henry and I.

Poor Lil' Girl!! What a mean dog to bit her. She gets bitten, stitches, icky pills or shots, a scary drain, and has to spend the night in a hospital which is a far cry from her loving home. Dare I hope that you are not having to foot the Vet bill? I have to live next to people that tease my Beagles and then complain when they bark. I don't know how you can live next to someone that would allow their dog to attach another animal - You must have tons more patients then I would! :angryfire: A tender belly rub and wishes for a speedy recovery for Lil' Girl from Colorado Cousins 4 times removed! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I hope Lil Girl heals well. I know it would be a hard topic to bring up to your neighbor but they should be the ones paying the vet bill. Your dog may have stuck her head through the fence but their dog reacted violently! Give her belly rubs and kisses from me and Caesar when she comes home. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Poor Lil Girl. We've got a staffordshire terrior on one side of our house, but I don't THINK it would be viscous enough to attack our girls.

Are pitbulls legal in America? In QLD, Australia, Pit Bulls are actually outlawed and illegal to own due to their aggressive nature towards anything that moves. People get around this ban though by saying that their pitbull is mixed with another dog. Normally a staffy, which then gives staffy's a bad name.

I hope she gets better soon!

Oh, Sandy, I would have been a basket case had this happened to Daisy :freak:

Glad she can come home tomorrow, poor baby!! I hope she'll heal quickly. That pit bull needs to learn some manners.

In the state of Ohio the owners of pit bulls must carry $100,000.00 of liability insurance. It's not cheap and at least it makes people think twice about paying closer attention to their dogs behaviour.

Kisses and tummy rubs to Li'l Girl from us!!

So sorry to hear about this Sandy. This is any dog owners nightmare. Hope little girl is well again soon.
Our neighbours have a Rottweiler and we are in constant watch that we dont meet it when out with ours. We went to dinner with the owners last week, and my poor Dave had this growling monster sitting next to him,. The owners didnt dare pull it away as the dog got more agressive. In the end they enticed it to another room with food. Our only hope is that the dog wont live long, its 8 years old but 3 times overweight. One bite from that dog and ours would be dead. The owners are nice, elderly, people who realise the danger, but love their dog. What does one do!!!
