Thanks for checking on Ms. Mags -- everything is status quo -- I think she has enjoyed her Mom being home with her all week. Since I would not have been able to walk her, I am glad vet squelched that for time-being. One day she even ate one of her carrot cake treats which she has not wanted to touch for weeks. I know dogs can have nausea and I wonder if that isn't Maggie's reason for not eating what used to be her favorite things. She will sniff something, sometimes even take it in her mouth and then just drop it. I know humans who have gallbladder problems get nauseous so, if that is what is going on, it makes sense. We are still on track for adrenal panel/ACTH stim test on Monday morning with serum being sent to UTenn for analysis. Being done at her regular vet and it is just a 2-hour test so she should do fine. The sores on her butt look much calmer -- I've been using just Dr. Smith's Diaper Rash Cream on them. Will probably continue that instead of going back to the cortisone spray. Thanks again for checking!

Good luck this morning. I will be thinking of you and Maggie. I can't check back here until after work because we can't use school computers for anything personal. If I get time at my planning time this afternoon I might go into the library where everyone logs in as student and take a quick look to see if you have posted how your day went.

Hi, all! Maggie is home from the vet after today's tests and resting comfortably. She was there for several hours and the vet told me that, after a little bit of whimpering, she quieted down and slept most of the time. Blood serum was overnighted to UTenn. Since one of the tests is only run on Mondays, we will have a wait until all the results come back. Unfortunately, bad news is that Maggie lost another lb. since her last weigh-in ten days ago. Vet suggested that I try giving Maggie some low-fat prescription canned food by Royal Canin to try and stablize her weight -- he gave me two different kinds that have different flavors. Good news is that Maggie scarfed down 1/2 can of food when we got home!! Then she kept jumping up on the washing machine because she saw the white bag the cans were in. She hasn't been this excited about food in a long, long time. Because she hadn't eaten since yesterday, I didn't want to give her a whole can at once so will space it out this evening. Vet said she can get a can and a half a day and can mix in dry w/d that I have. (Canned food stinks ... :pukey: )
My vet has a call into the internal med specialist at the hospital here as he wants Maggie to have another ultrasound. Think I want to wait until UTenn results are back so specialist will have that info.
I'm back to work tomorrow -- probably should wear a sign that says "I'm not contagious" due to persistent cough. My doctor called today to see how I was doing (I know, amazing!) and he said he has seen this linger for 2-3 weeks in others.
Thanks to all for your good wishes and prayers!

Glad to hear the Mags is sucking down the canned food :pukey:

I'm sure it will be a long week waiting on test results but I am keeping fingers and paws crossed that you get some answers and that Maggie continues to eat !! Hope that your cough goes away quickly too !!

Sucking it down and it's coming right out the other end! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif I called the vet and he said he did not think it was the food (it is supposedly highly digestible) but rather the stress from today. He said to start giving her pepto bismol. Okay, guys, have you ever tried to give your beagles pepto bismol???? Think pink floor! Maybe two drops got down her throat. After another trip outside with same result, I decided to mix pepto bismol in with the food. Maggie was not thrilled with the pink food but couldn't restrain herself -- cleaned the bowl! Hope it works ...

I'm glad Maggie has found some food to her liking, and hope that the tests will finally give you something concrete. Yes, I have given beagles Pepto Bismo, and it's very tricky. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif I've found that it's easiest for me to use the tablets instead of the liquid. I hope you can lose the cough soon.

Glad to hear she is at least eating. I found that I can hide pills in Velveeta cheese. For some reason Maggie loves it and chomps down anything inside. Maybe you could hide the tablets that way.

RC -- won't get results from UTenn until some time next week and next ultrasound will probably be next week as well. Focusing right now on trying to stablize Maggie's weight -- having some trouble with new food. Vet wanted her on 2 cans a day but she gets sick after about a can. Vet has today off but will talk with him tomorrow. Giving her pepto bismol (yes, tablets!!!) after her evening meal to try and calm her stomach. Interestingly, since starting the canned food, she has no interest in any treats -- not sure what that is about. Thanks for checking!
