When Chipper (our first bagle) passed on, we give it three months before Casie came to join us. Cobi was a little lonely, but rather liked having the kingdom to himself. Casie on the other hand has ALWAYS been in a pack. From the time he was born he was in a large pack of show dogs...and never was on his own. Then he came to live with us, and has had Cobi. Is there a way to try out how Casie will react if/when Cobi is gone? (NO there is nothing wrong with Cobi, I'm just anticipating, around here beagle pups are hard to come by) Do we wait and see what Casie's reactions are? I have had two boys for so long, I can't imagine not having two...but it has to be a puppy....Casie is timid and shy and would not do well with a bigger dog. Ideas and thoughts?

Hmmm...

Well.... my three Beagles came together one at a time - all were adults. When #2 joined #1, there was a bit of "getting to know you" time, and then they became a little pack. Well, when #3 showed up, the first two were not happy at all. But about 3 months later, they are a pack, playing and sleeping together. My point is, Beagles are very pack oriented, and if/when you find yourself with one, don't wait - just go get another one. But please try to rescue one who already needs a home rather than going to a breeder!

We sort of had that problem with Tucker. First we had Cleo, Tucker came a year later, Jasmine (non-Beag) a year later. 1 year later Cleo (apx 11-14)went to the bridge and Jasmine (apx 17) went about 2 years later. Tucker had a bit of a problem being alone since he already had seperation anxiety. He did adjust. He did mourn a bit for Cleo. Now that we added two more, he has a pack again.
