Here we go again..For a while now I've had no problem w/ Mizu eating his food. I would fill his bowl and turn around and it would be gone in a flash. For the past couple weeks Mizu won't even touch his food. I would have to sit w/ him and try to feed him. Should I change his dogfood again ? I heard of a gravy to top off dog food, has anyone tried this ? Do they just get bored of their food every 3 months or what ?

We had the same problem - Xsara wouldn't eat a thing for three months. She lost a lot of weight and was tired all the time.

The first thing to do is go to the vet and make sure it's not a health issue. We made sure she was healthy and the vet told us she was just spoiled.

That's why I didn't want to change her food because I know a dog who got used to this trick, stop eating and you will get something better. Now they are cooking to him, they buy only the best meat for the dog and he still doesn't eat.

Anyway, what I did was that I changed her food at first, but I didn't put it in her bowl. I pretended it wasn't plain dry food but yummy treats. So I fed her all her meals with clicker.

She wasn't impressed at first but she would still eat them. With time (in a couple of weeks) she got her appetite back. Then I slowly started giving her the previous brand of dry food mixed with the new food.

We still feed her using clicker since we do so many tricks that we need a lot of treats, but I keep giving her 3/4 of the same brand and 1/4 something new.

I think she would eat from the bowl now and sometimes when I don't have time she does. I don't know if this is a good solution for you but that's how we resolved this problem. I hope your dog starts eating soon!

Jersey got like that for a while too. She'd only eat when she got really hungry, maybe every other day. I was going out and buying canned food, adding some ground beef or chicken, gravy...whatever to get her to eat. Finally I'd had enough and decided she was going to eat her food. I stopped adding things to it and within a couple of days she starting realizing that was all she was going to get and ate it. I've started adding a small amount of canned food again and she's fine now. We had a little setback when she started her anxiety meds (loss of appetite is one of the side effects), but we've gotten through that now too. My suggestion is just hold your ground with Mizu. He'll learn that if he's hungry and needs to eat that what's in his bowl is all he's going to get and he'll eat it. He won't let himself starve.
