This is really a silly question but how much water does a Beagle need a day?????

The Girls have been staying out during the day for the past 2 weeks and I always leave them 2 bowls of water out but my neighbor told me today that she has been rewatering them atleast 2X a day. Besides buying more bowls, give me some ideas on how to keep the Girls watered during the day?

You might consider one of the things that holds water and dispenses it as the bowl empties. Guess that'd be an automatic waterer. We just set several bowls of water out.

The problem could be that they are tipping the bowls over. Maybe try getting larger bowls that can not be tipped. My two don't drink all that much water in a day unless if they are outside playing but even still, it is never more that one big bowl between the two of them.

I never want the Bagel to not have water so I put extra warer in a paint bucket he can't tip over plus his regular water bowl.

Sydney has a water bottle in her crate during the day, it looks like a hamster bottle. That way she can't spill it. Can you rig something like that up?

Can you keep the hose running to a drip into a bowl for them?

I don't know that there's a specific amount of water that they need. Jersey drinks one bowl a day some days, while other days I may have to fill it three times or more. I guess just like us, some days they are thirstier than others. I would try one of the constant watering bowls. They sell them at my local Wal-Mart and aren't too expensive. You may want to get them something a little bigger and heavier to keep them from chewing/tipping/other puppy things to it.

I bought the water dispenser, Charlie is afraid of it. As it refill from the bottle, it makes the bloop bloop noice, Charlie won't drink from it unless my hand is in the bowl too, otherwise he will bark at it. I switched back to the old fashion way, refill when its empty.

We have a water dispenser and I use it during the summer when its hot and in their crates they have water bowls clipped to the side with a holder.

But their favourite drinking bowl is an old plastic clear triffle bowl Its holds about two pints of water. They love me to fill it up with cold fresh water. Foxy Roo really loves a drink of fresh water and the puppy and her drink together from the bowl. I fill it up at least twice a day.

They prefer the deep bowl to the water dispensor, but the water dispenser is great when it is hot as I put it outside.

We had a water dispenser and I used to fill it with water and ice cubes during the summer. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif What I didnt realize was Katie thought the ice cubes were food and wouldnt let Willow anywhere near the water! So much for me being a considerate beagle mum....it nearly caused a few fights!! :redface:

Katie does drink more than Willow but I also find a big bucket in the garden is useful as it doesnt knock over and I can replenish it with the hosepipe once empty.

I just bought a continuous water bowl at Walmart for $14.68...It holds a gallon of water and I put it outside on the back porch ...also I have 3 smaller cont. water bowls in the living room....They evaporate so fast in the summer...that is why I bought the big one for the back

We are going to try and teach the Girls to get water out of one of those dispensers that you hook up directly to the water spiket. hasn't been hot enough and we haven't been here when it has been hot to teach them.........

But I saw this really neat thing today that 2 bowls interlocked into a bigger box and one of the bowls had holes in the bottom so that you filled the box with water and it provided water all day. If we can't teach them to use the dispenser I guess this is where we will be heading.

BTW do you freeze water in the summer and leave it out? I have never had a dog that stayed outdoors so I didn't know if this was a good thing or not!

Cecil and Brandy require totally different amounts of water. Brandy has always wanted more water even too much in the beginning. Cecil drinks water only when she requires it. When they are in the playpen, I have a large stainless steel water bowl. I fill it in the morning and add ice to it. During their inside nap, I check on it. Often they have been digging and have some dirt or leaves have dropped in it so I change it again. I have two inside bowls that they drink usually 1-1/2 together. They do not have any nighttime water. When they were little we cut off water at 6 PM and gave them ice cubes. This helped in the potty training. Now we just leave the bowls out until they go into their kennels for the big sleep around 7. Cecil used to toss a plastic type bowl we had in the playpen, but the stainless one she does not. When it's really hot, I put scoops of ice cubes in the playpen for them to eat and lie in. They love it.
