Hello,

I was wondering how much you guys walk your Beagles. I came across a few threads here where people were asking if they needed to walk their beagles at all, and that kind of surprised me, since I can't image not walking my beagles every day (they would drive me nuts!).

So, I usually go on one "quality walk" a day with our dogs that usually lasts about 2-2.5 hours. If I'm going with each dog seperately (which is about 50 % of the time the case) I go about 1.5 hours with each dog. During the quality walks the dogs are either on the 8 meter Flexi leashes or on 10 meter field leashes (my prefered leashes). Evenings we might go for another 30 - 45 minutes on the flexis. And of course we take a little potty walk in the mornings.

How much do you guys walk your beagles?

I walk Bailey down the block and back and in the afternoon we take longer walk from house to the park and back or sometime go two blocks and come back. When we go to the ranch we walk along the fence while we mended the fences it a long walk too about 1 hr and 1/2 and back to where we started from.It 2 hrs away and boy when we get home in the early evening after being gone all day he conked out on the bed and down for the night...He barked at our cows and won't calm down until few minutes later.

Oh Vonny, can I be one of your hounds? I'd love to go for an hour's walk on the beach every morning!!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Miss Shiloh doesn't get as much walking time as she should--which you could tell by looking at both of us! :eyes: During the week she gets a short 10-15 minute walk around the yard and to the end of our street and back first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Then in the afternoon she gets a longer walk around the block, if I have time. Weekends she and I go to the park about 3 blocks from our house. But when there's snow and/or ice, we mostly stay in our yard; many people on our street don't clear their walks!! :grr:

Cecil and Brandy get a minimum two 1 mile walks a day -one when they first get up and one around 5:30 in the evening. Sometimes we do another mile around 6:45. They also get lots of running time in the playpen every day.

In the winter our two go for an hours walk after breakfast and an hour again in the afternoon. They have a garden to race round in as well, but are mainly too lazy. In the summer we do a late night walk as well.

I walk the Bagel only when I really need to, maybe once or twice a month. This is a polite walk where he has to heal and there is no sniffing allowed. Regular collar and short leash.

He walks me most every day to check out the local gossip; stop, smell, smell some more, then leave his beagle message, then on scurry twenty feet to the next mailbox, bush, stopsign or post and repeat. We usually go east a block, north two blocks to a friends house for an ear scatch and to replinish his supply of beagle magic message marking fluid (water he quickly converts) and then west a block, south two blocks and we get home. Weekends we go to races, ghosts towns, mountains, or the desert. Here we uses his tracking harness and appropriate lead, either about 6 meters around the block and in the thick vegatation like forests or 12 meters in the open desert.

During weekdays, I walk my beagle three times a day: morning, evening, and before bedtime. Each walk lasts around 20-30 min. On weekends, we may sneak in another late morning walk to make it four times a day. This doesn't include play sessions inside the house: chase, hide and seek, treat-hunting game, etc. But whatever we do depends on the weather conditions.
