I am so proud of my little nipper! he is doing so well at obedience, although its mostly for treats still lol.

He is turning 6 months on Thursday coming and I cant believe Ive only had him for 3 months!! it feels like forever lol.

One question, he is 13 kg, which is 28.6lbs is that too much?? for his age? he doesn't seem fat at all.. but he is big boned, remember the bigfoot story?!

anyway he's doing great and Im very happy at this stage with his training!! yay!

Isn't it fun when they start learning. I bought a book of tricks to teach dogs. Maggie and I have a little "work" session every day. She seems to enjoy it and she is much better behaved because she is not so bored. We have gone through advanced obedience...actually did that one twice because you can retake that class at no cost. We also do a few agility things just for fun. My friend competes in agility and shows us things to work on even though we have no intention of competing.

I am ashamed to say my Wonder Twins weigh 34 & 35lbs. They love to eat but they are also outside everyday, all day running and hunting in the backyard and a lot of their weight is muscle.

Stray Jack on the other hand only weighs 18lbs and we wonder why he won't stay in the backyard all the time without climbing the fence. Heck I would climb a fence if I had 2 cinderblocks charging at me, cutting my legs out from under me and pulling me around by my collar!

Daisy's ideal weight is 16kg, but she is pushing it at about 17kg at the moment.

Don't forget that in Australia, beagles are built much differently to those in America. Firstly, we only have the one sized beagle which sees the maximum height for the breed standard at 15 inches.

Daisy is 15 inches but she is much more muscle-y and solid than American beagles (she is more similar to the English bred beagles, that is where a lot of Aussie breeders import their dogs from). Their heads are a different shape too, more rounded than pointy, and whilst they can be quite tall they aren't really 'leggy' and are quite compact.

So yes, I'd say Glover is an ok weight - he won't grow hugely from six months. Do you know how tall he is? He will probably only grow another couple of inches.

I would however watch his weight closely to make sure he stays nice and lean. Beagles should have nice visible muscles in their shoulders and legs, and you should feel his ribs easily.

Im so glad that there are some australians around here lol, thank you smeagle, that was a real help! I will have to watch him with his treats, he doesn't really eat much food, especially in the mornings.

I think he is about 13 inch now, Ill have to mesure him properly... when he stays still!!

No worries GC!

Knowing the breeder Glover came from, he has similar lines to Daisy so he will likely be a nice big, solid boy... but do try to keep him lean /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Daisy is looking fat at the moment (well in my eyes), it's disgusting. There is nothing worse than a fat beagle LOL! She is on a very strict diet atm, she puts weight on quite easily but I am determined not to have a fat hound doggie /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Kioko is 7 months old, and she weighs 16.5 pounds. She looks very healthy to me, and the vet said she was good. She still has quite a bit of growing to do, though, so the jury is out on how big she'll get.

I don't know about Glover, though he seems great to me, but Chloe is 15-16 lb and is a 13" beagle. She is compact, I love the fact that I can just pick her up and go... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I love GC's looks, he is so handsome

My girls are 15 months old (this wednesday) and they are 14kg (Sally) and 14.8kg (Leia).

Being a male, they are generally bigger anyway, but I think that's quite nice for a beagle. Everyones always said, if you can see/find their ribs easily, they are an okay weight.

(You have to go searching for Leia's ribs, but they are there :D)

Abby is almost 3 and is about 30lbs and has been for about 2 years or so. I just posted pics of her from today if you want to check her out. Last appt. Vet said he wanted her down to 27lbs....not because she was overweight but because "she was losing her girlish figure." According to some BWers she is just fine though so I'm not going to worry about it too much.
