I need help people! I think I have a virus/worm/something on my computer. I haven't been browsing in questionable sites or anyhing, but since last night it has gone crazy. I keep getting this message, and the broswer keeps navigating itself to porn sites and different antivirus sites.... help!!!
Norton 2008 doesn't detect anything. Also I ran AdAware and nothing comes up.

Another thing is that I get a DLL error when I start up the computer.

I'm no expert but it sounds like a Trojan. Some of them take over your homepage and navigate you away from where you want to go. Norton is Anti-Virus software whereas I think you need to run a Spyware programme like SpyBot to get rid of it.

I had a Trojan about a week or so ago. I have Ad-Aware, AVG Anti Spyware and Pest Patrol but none of them got rid of it. Eventually I found something called Spybot - Search and Destroy and that got rid of it.

My Trojan did the same as you, it kept opening up porn sites and gambling sites etc. and I had limited control over my browser.

Spybot took AGES to download and even longer to scan my puter so maybe someone else has a better option for you.

First and foremost DO NOT install AntiSpywareSuite!!!!

AntiSpywareSuite is a rogue anti-spyware program. It is a clone of TrustedProtection in the design of it's homepage and in everything else. It is usually spread by Trojans, such as Zlob. AntiSpywareSuite employs the use of continuous popup windows and fake system notifications to scare the user into buying the licensed version. Sound familiar? This "licensed version" is, of course, a fake.

AntiSpywareSuite's domain is registered to an unnamed person and the website contains no contact information. AntiSpywareSuite.com should be blocked using the HOSTS file. Do NOT buy this program.

If you already have installed, do a goole search for AntiSpywareSuite. There are several sites on how to uninstall.

As for the dll error, I am unable to find anything specifically for that particular dll.

Thanks Deb. I didn't and will never install those pop-up stuff. What should I install to get rid of those antispywaresuite pop-ups? That's what I'm trying to find out.

Jennifer, where did you download the spybot from? I found a lot of sites to download it from, it's about 5 MB file.

It is faking a .dll file that never existed making it sound like a bad program had corrupted the file as well. The bad program is the one that is telling you to buy the bogus software.

I got it from here

http://www.filehippo.com/

but i would urge you to wait until someone else like JAISP maybe can answer your post with help because although it worked im not sure if it's the best programme to use. I can't remember how long it took to download but it seemed like forever and I know it took over an hour to scan my pc.

Edited: I see JAISP was typing at the same time as me lol so I guess it must be the right one then.

OK, I installed it. Spybot detected 2 threats and "fixed" them. It still didn't solve the problem.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bounce.gif

That seems quick but maybe my pc just took ages to do it because of the particular Trojan I had might have slowed everything down.

I don't have any other ideas sorry.

Thanks, Joe. I'll try that this evening (on my cousins comp now) and if that won't work I'll follow Dave's advice (thanks again Dave, you're an /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_exclaim.gif), which seems to be the best solution in the long run. Getting rid of Vista /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hapfac01.gif might even help everything to work faster /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif

Eleanor, make sure you disable your system restore when you run the anti-spyware program. After cleaning the virus, run another virus scan, and if the virus is gone, then enable your system restore. I had the same Zlob virus a while back and it took several programs to remove all of it.

Hmmmm....mine does. I have Vista Home Premium, but maybe you have a different version.

I've always been told to disable the system restore so it doesn't make a back-up copy of the virus while you're removing it. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hihi.gif
